May 15th Student Wellness Activities

In order to help promote student wellness, Council Rock is providing weekly optional student wellness activities for all grade levels that can be completed either individually or with families on Fridays. The activities address the physical health, mental health, and social connectedness of our students.

PRIMARY LEVEL ACTIVITIES (Grades K-3)

Primary (Grades K-3)

1.) Sidewalk Chalk Activities

There are several fun activities to do with sidewalk chalk! Draw a hopscotch and play hopscotch! Draw a long squiggly line on the sidewalk and pretend you’re walking a tightrope by walking the line foot over foot. Draw a bouquet of flowers in honor of Spring!


2.) Relaxation Activities

3.) Make-Your-Own Play-Dough

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL ACTIVITIES (Grades 4-6)

Intermediate (Grades 4-6)

1.) Journaling

Write a funny or exciting adventure story about what happens when school is closed. Use your imagination and include lots of details so that your readers get a great picture in their minds!


2.) Visual Calming Room

3.) Virtual Game Night

Connect with a friend(s) via Zoom/Hangouts/Skype/FaceTime and play a board game or non-board game, such as Headbanz, Boggle, Loaded Questions, Charades, Name That Tune, or Scavenger Hunt. You can also download game apps, such as Google Duo and Houseparty, to play with friends virtually.

MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL (GRADES 7-8)

Middle School (Grades 7-8)

1.) Sworkit Fitness

2.) Animal Therapy

Relax and take a break with some animal therapy by exploring the Philadelphia Zoo’s database of every animal they have there: https://philadelphiazoo.org/animals/. Also, the Philadelphia Zoo is airing a Facebook Live series called Philly Zoo at 2 every weekday at 2pm. The show takes viewers behind the scenes to meet some of the animals living in America’s oldest zoo, including lions, tigers, giraffes, hedgehogs, rhinos, red pandas, red tail hawks and more.


3.) MetaStream Party or Netflix Party

Watch an appropriate movie or TV show with friends through a MetaStream party at the following link: https://getmetastream.com/. This is a free streaming website that includes access to YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Twitch, Disney Plus, Reddit, and much more. You will need to do so using Firefox or a Google Chrome extension. You must do so using Google Chrome, and you will need to either have an active Netflix subscription or sign up for a 30-day free trial.

HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL (GRADES 9-12)

1.) Guided Calming Strategies

2.) Insight Timer App
Check out this free app for sleep, anxiety, and stress: https://insighttimer.com/. You can choose from a variety of music, sleep talks, sound therapies, and guided meditations.


3.) Game Night
Host a game night for your family. You can include card games, word games (e.g., Scrabble, Boggle, Words With Friends), or board games. Playing games will keep your mind active and provide fun for family and friends of all ages.
