Primary source?

Something that was created by an inside view at the time or around the time of the event.

Secondary Source?

This is a source that is made after the event has happened and is made by someone who did not witness it first hand.

How do you tell them apart?

Primary:

made at the time of the event and by someone there.

Secondary:

made after the time of the event by someone who wasn't there.
