From The Desk of Mr. Anderson...
Spring is just around the corner - we have certainly enjoyed the first few nice days we have had to get our students outside for recess. You really don't know happy until you see kids run around in the sunshine without coats for the first time. Spring fever has hit us all, but please be careful sending your kids to school dressed for the predicted high temperature of the day. Our first recesses start at 10:05, and it can still be pretty chilly at that time. Dress them in layers (and also remind them to bring all of those layers back home again too!)
We are well into construction planning for our new classroom wing and new gym - we will share more updates as we have them. Dr. Powers does a great job of posting updates on Facebook and Twitter, and I try to share on Twitter as well. It's an exciting time to be a Morris Jay!
Spring Break will be March 12-16 - I hope you have some time to decompress and relax with your kids. Read with them over break - outside if the weather permits! When we return from break, the last two months of this school year will just fly by!
Looking ahead to next fall and the 2018-19 school year, we are hosting an incoming Kindergarten Parents Information Night on Tuesday, March 6 at 6pm. Please share the information listed later in the Minute with anyone you know who has a child that will be five years old by September 15 of this year. Online registration for Kindergarten (and Developmental Kindergarten) opens on March 5 - share the news!
I always enjoy seeing so many parents attend Parent Teacher Conferences. We really are a team, and your students' success depends on your input! It is hard to believe the year is winding down - we've got lots of great learning still ahead of us though.
Happy Spring!
Yours in Education,
Ben Anderson

Second Graders learn about Technology on the Farm
On February 6th, 2nd graders had guest speaker, Cindy Hall, in their rooms to talk about “Technology on The Farm.” She first introduced the term 'agriculture' to the students and had them thinking about what kind of corn is most common in Iowa. The students were able to interact with different farm equipment used long ago. The students were asked which season they believed the tools were used during and then tried to match the tool to what farmers use today! Many of the tools that farmers use today do multiple jobs and are much more efficient. They also had great discussions about how inventors don’t have to just be one type of person! Anyone who sees a problem or something that can be improved can be an inventor!
