School Counselor Corner
During the month of October, students will be learning about the Zones of Regulation. Students will gain skills in the area of self-regulation – we will focus on learning how to recognize our emotions and state of alertness, and how to use tools or strategies to stay calm, focused, and ready to learn. If you would like to learn more about the Zones of Regulation curriculum that our lessons are based on, please join me for an informal Zoom meeting on Wednesday October 14th at 10am. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org for Zoom link or for more information.

RMES is honoring our local veterans virtually this year. We hope that by doing so we can reach more RMES-connected veterans than ever! If you would like to honor a veteran in our community (connected to an RME student), please email Anna Walker at email@example.com and include your student’s name and teacher’s name, along with the name of the veteran. Look for more information in the coming weeks about how we can include your veterans in our multimedia presentation. Gather photos that you and your veteran are willing to share publicly (they will need to be digital). We will need all contributions by October 27th in time for our November 6th presentation.
The PTA Reflections contest encourages students to explore the arts. This year’s theme is “I Matter Because”. Entries are due to the school by October 14th. Contest info is located here: https://www.pta.org/home/programs/reflections
Red Mill Spirit T-Shirt
The PTA is excited to give each student a fun spirit shirt. We are not able to have the Fun Run this year, but our sponsors were so generous and still sponsored the shirts. Thank you to Beach Windows, Strawbridge Dental, Kalfus & Nachman, Siebert Realty, Anderson’s and Sage Kitchen. October 23rd will be our first Spirit Day to wear the new shirts!!
Would you like to win a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving? Each person who joins the PTA will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of ten frozen turkeys. There will be a special Dolphin delivery of the turkeys. Please go to the following website rmes.new.memberhub.store/store to pay your $5.00 dues. This year you will also receive a Papa John’s coupon for joining. The code will be emailed to you after you pay your dues.
Fall has arrived! During the month of October we hope you can find some time to decorate or carve a pumpkin. This is not a contest, but a fun activity to do with your family. The deadline to submit pictures is Monday, October 26th. You can email the pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be posted on Facebook.
Facebook Live Meeting
Please join us on November 5th at 7:00 for a General PTA Meeting. This will be a Facebook Live meeting. The winners of the membership raffle will be announced. We will also have a drawing during the meeting for a chance to win a Honey Baked Ham gift card and a Thanksgiving gift basket.
Congratulations to the following students who participated in the summer reading program. Thank you to Sweet Frogs on General Booth for donating coupons to each student.

2020-2021 Student Face Coverings and the Code of Student Conduct
For the 2020-2021 school year or until further notice, all students are required to wear a cloth face covering at bus stops, on school buses, and in school buildings unless they provide documentation from a healthcare provider that they are unable to wear a face covering due to a health condition. Face coverings are subject to the same expectations outlined in Policy 5-41 and may not depict lewd graphics, display offensive or obscene language, advertise alcohol or an illegal substance, or have any gang-affiliation. With the same parameters a face shield is an acceptable substitute, if a cloth face covering cannot be used. Staff is required to direct the student to place the face covering over the mouth and nose. When a student is not wearing a face covering nor wearing it properly, the teacher shall tell the student to wear the face covering and/or to do so properly. Should a student refuse to wear a face covering after being told to do so by staff, then the student will be cited for violating the COSC.
Not Receiving Text Messages from the School?
Our records indicate that we still have some families not receiving text messages from the school with important reminders and transportation changes. If you have not received any text messages from Red Mill this school year, you may have not yet Opted in to receive text messages. See below for directions on how to Opt In or Opt Out of text messages.
How do I know if I have Opted-in?
You can check if you are opted-in by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587.
How do I opt-out?
You may opt-out at any time by texting “STOP” to 67587.
What if I opted-out but later decide I would like to opt-in again?
As long as your child’s school has your text-enabled phone number on record, you may request to begin receiving text messages by texting “Y” or "YES" to 67587. If the school does not have your text-enabled number on record, you will need to contact the school.
Students and their parents are encouraged to visit the Academic and Career Planning webpage to view and engage with K-12 career resources, middle and high school academic and career planning documents, and career pathway guides. Likewise, the Destination Graduation site offers students and families grade-level specific information and resources to help students and families navigate the journey from preschool to high school graduation.
Free Access to Virginia Beach Public Library Digital Resources
Did you know that Virginia Beach students have digital access to the Virginia Beach Public Library? Through a partnership between Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) and Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL), all K-12 students have year-round public library digital access.

Login: S + VBCPS Student ID number. Example: S1234567

- Student accounts include public computer access at all VBPL locations except for the TCC/City Joint-Use Library.
- VBCPS accounts expire 30 days after a student graduates or leaves the VBCPS district.
- Access to Hoopla and Newsbank resources is not included in VBCPS student accounts.
- Students may also hold a Youth Library card (with parent signature) to check out physical items from the library.
