Ms. O’Brien’s Syllabus: HERE
Mrs. Childress’ Syllabus: HERE
From Ms. O'Brien:
Currently in ELA we are finishing up our novel, One Crazy Summer. Students will take their test over our historical fiction unit on Monday, April 29th.
We will be MAP testing this coming week (May 1, 2, 3). Please make sure that students are coming to school with a fully charged Chromebook and ready to do their best on the test!
Our final unit will be Creative Writing. Students will learn about developing plot, adding dialogue, and more. Their final project will be to write a story using what they have learned.
Important Reminders:
+Students will have a reading log due on each Late Start day. This is through a Google Form on Canvas. Reading logs will not be accepted late.
+Students should be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes per night.
+Other than reading logs, all assignments are due on the last Friday of the quarter. The upcoming deadline for 4th quarter is Friday, May 17th.
+Continue to check SIS and Canvas for grade/assignment updates. Canvas will have detailed instructions for each assignment, while SIS will have their final grades.
Please feel free to reach out with questions and concerns on Canvas or by email at obrien.megan@wgmail.org
From Mrs. Childress (Period 1, 7, & 8):
This week in ELA students are reviewing parts of speech. Students have a new packet that will be due at the end of next week, May 3rd.There are small assignments in Canvas that students have to practice the various parts of speech. Students will need to keep up with those assignments. We are also reading our latest class novel. If students need to read at home, access to their novels can be found both in Canvas and Actively Learn. MAP testing and NWEA testing will be coming in the next two weeks. We will be reviewing some test taking skills this week as well.

Science (Mrs. Meyer)
Mrs. Meyer’s Syllabus: HERE
From Mrs. Meyer:
We have finished our study of internal processes; how and why tectonic plates move and what happens at the boundaries where they meet.
Now we are learning about external processes; weathering and erosion. The most important piece from these two units of study is to identify the energy source responsible for each set of processes - internal processes driven by energy from the core of the earth, and external processes driven by energy from the sun.
We will revisit our EcoBottles at the end of the year to see how well we used our understanding of life science from the first half of the school year, and engineering design process methods to complete the project. Students will present the final project with their groups!
Please email any questions to meyer.dawn@wgmail.org
American History (Mr. Lopez)
Mr. Lopez’s Syllabus: HERE
From Mr. Lopez:
This week in Social Studies, students have been putting the finishing touches on their research and have begun creating their artifacts out of recycled materials. Most students worked in partnerships to research a topic from the 1920s. Within those partnerships, each student had a subtopic that they were to explore and create a museum artifact for.
Next, we will explore the Great Depression Era through a variety of in-class activities.
Please continue to have your child show you what’s happening in Canvas and SIS. This is the best way to stay on top of assignments and due dates.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me: lopez.patrick@wgmail.org
Math (Mrs.Gulve)
Mrs. Gulve's Syllabus: HERE
From Mrs. Gulve:
This week in math class we started our final unit on data. Students learned to ask statistical questions and learned to find the mean, median, mode, and range of a set of data. We ended the week by analyzing visual representations of data such as dot plots, box plots, pie charts, frequency tables, and histograms. This unit will not have a test, but will have two projects that will count towards the summative (80%) portion of their grade.
Next week is MAP testing, so at the beginning of the week students will participate in a review of the concepts we worked on in the beginning of the year.
Have a great week!
