Salt water vs Fresh water
Only 2.5 percent of the planet's water is fresh, and two third of this fresh water are glaciers and icecaps, and fresh water has very salt in it. Rivers, lakes, ponds, and streams are all fresh water.
Mountain glaciers are disappearing quicky. Supplies of water are needed for drinking water. A major glacier feeding the Yangtze River in China has retreated more than a half mile in just over a decade. In the northwestern United States much of the fresh water comes from the rapidly disappearing glaciers of Mt.Rainer, the Cascade Range and Glacier National Park.
