A Pep Talk from Kid President to You

Atco is AWESOME!

It has been a busy month at Atco Elementary. Author Daryl Cobb visited our school. He discussed how he uses his life experiences to write his books. We had an Earth Day assembly where Jay Mankita sang songs with the children about the importance of recycling and taking care of the earth. The students also enjoyed a day celebrating their grandparents at our 2nd Annual Grandparent’s Event. The grandparents had a great time listening to their grandchildren read stories and sing songs. They also had the opportunity to lunch together. Nurti-Serve provided a “tasting” for all of our students. The children were able to taste test different foods and learn about food groups.

TR School TOTALLY ROCKS!

As Marking Period 3 ended, Classroom Success Celebrations took place to award students who earned Achievement Awards (ALL A's and B's), Principal's Awards (ALL A's), and Bucket Filler-of-the-Marking Period Awards.

The monthly Bucket Filler Principal's Lunch was held for students who were chosen from all of the Bucket Fillers in March. This luncheon was hosted by our interim principal, Dr. Will Maddox.

Parcc testing has been taking place and running smoothly. The third graders are working hard on the tests and being rewarded with extra recess and even a pizza party!

Mrs. Handzus' 2nd graders had fun reading to Miss Hickman's and Miss Venere's Preschool students as part of the 2nd grade "Big Buddies" program.

Earth Day was a big cause for celebration here at TR. Here are a few examples of what our students did. A beautiful garden was planted by Miss Mark and Mrs. Kizee's 2nd grade students, along with parent volunteers. Mrs. Borman's third graders made "Garden's in a Glove" with vegetable seeds. Miss Hickman's preschoolers learned all about how plants grow and then planted flower seeds in pots. One talented TR artist won the Waterford Township Environmental Commission's Design a T-Shirt Contest.

Last but not least, all students were treated to an assembly entitled, "Home Sweet Home" featuring Jay Mankita singing his songs for 'Clean Communities' and showing students the importance of taking care of our planet.

A Teacher Appreciation Assembly hosted by our local Waterford Township Girl Scouts took place to kick off an early start to Teacher Appreciation Week. All of our hard-working and caring teachers were recognized and were presented with nice tokens of appreciation from their students.

Lastly, the national Take Your Child to Work Day was celebrated at TR. Many of our students were off to work with their parents and we had many helpers on hand as staff members' children spent the day here at our school.

Students continued on their path to excellence this month at WES. Besides "knocking it out of the PARCC" and completing the annual PARCC assessment, students and staff participated in the annual 'Take Your Sons & Daughters to Work Day', held daily ST Math and myON Reading challenges, and our 6th grade EAGLE students partook in their annual trip to NYC.
