Wilson University: A Place of Musical Excellence
Wilson’s Tiger Production (pictured above) invites the public to a musical performance on Friday, March 22, as the group presents Wilson University: A Place of Musical Excellence. This original musical follows a young man’s journey as he ventures life at the historical Wilson University. From a 90's party to a little bit of church, Tiger Production plans to take you on a musical voyage.
Tiger Production’s Wilson University, will begin on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. with dinner which will last until 6:30 p.m. The lights go up for the performance at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from the Wilson High School Choral Department (843-758-6616) or members of Tiger Production.
About Tiger Production
Directed by L. Megerlyn Davis, Tiger Production is the Honors Chorus and Show Choir of Wilson High School. It is an eccentrically-charged group of high school students whose repertoire includes several types of music such as ballads, spirituals, as well as classical, gospel, popular, and rhythm-and-blues pieces.
Williams Middle Academic Team Advances to State Championship
The Williams Middle School Academic Challenge Team won the Pee Dee Regional Tournament by beating Ron McNair 42-30 Saturday at Francis Marion University.
This team was undefeated this season and will advance to the state tournament March 29 at Winthrop University.

Middle/High Strings Students in Concert on March 21
Florence 1 Schools will display its middle and high school orchestra programs with the annual All-City Orchestra Concert. The All-City Orchestra event features middle and high schools strings students in a concert to be held on Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. at South Florence High School.
The first performance of the evening will be a string orchestra performance by middle school students from Sneed, Southside, and Williams with guest conductor Andrew Preston from Hartsville Middle School.
The second performance of the evening will be a string orchestra presentation by high school students from West Florence, South Florence, and Wilson High. The guest conductor for the high school orchestra is Genny Nelson from Pelion Middle School, in Lexington One.
Orchestra teachers in Florence 1 Schools Mark Jackson (Wilson/Williams); Ronda Lee (West Florence/Sneed); Barrett Jackson (South Florence High ); and Rebecca Jones (Southside Middle) welcome the public to the orchestra concert. The concert is free to the public.

Student Named National Geographic GeoBee South Carolina State Competition Semifinalist by National Geographic Society
William Malambri, an eighth grade student at Williams Middle School, has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2019 National Geographic GeoBee South Carolina State Competition. The contest will be held at Brookland Baptist Church and Conference Center on Friday, March 29.
This is the second level of the National Geographic GeoBee competition, which is now in its 31st year. School GeoBees were held in schools with fourth through eighth-grade students throughout the state to determine each school champion. School champions then took an online qualifying test which they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The National Geographic Society has invited up to 100 of the top-scoring students in each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense Dependents Schools and U.S. territories to compete in the State GeoBees.
Whitney Jones, Social Studies teacher at Williams Middle School, is the coordinator of the school’s GeoBee and Pamela Johnson is the principal.
Pee Dee Federal Credit Union Provides Funding for Teacher Classroom Ideas
The Pee Dee Federal Credit Union has awarded a total of $3,000 for twelve innovative ideas submitted by Florence 1 teachers. The funds will be used to purchase items needed to carry out the ideas, which will directly benefit students in their classroom activities. Teachers are the recipients of $250 each for their grant submissions. Grant winners and their ideas are:

City of Florence to Hold Summer Camp for Students
The camp will be held at the Barnes Street Activity Center (513 Barnes Street) from June 17th through August 9th. Hours of the camp are 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday (with extended hours available) and 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
