Who where the Mayans?
They were settlers in Central America. The Mayans invented math, a hydrographic language, and a calendar. Because of lac of resources, the Mayans died off before the Europeans could meet them. The Mayan civilization started around 1800 BCE.
Why where the Mayans important?
There are many reasons why the Mayans are important, for one they made an accurate calendar that we still have today. The Mayans knew lots about astronomy, the studied the moon, the sun, and other planets. They developed a number system, so they knew a lot about math.
What happened to them?
No one knows for sure what happened to the Mayans but they have multiple theory's. One of the theory's is self exile and diseases. Another one is that they starved because they didn't have enough land for farming so they couldn't really make there food.
How they organized themselves
The Mayans government was ruled by kings and priests. They kept religion in there daily lives and believed in human sacrifice. Sometimes they would raid other community's to get victims to sacrifice. They lived in independent city-states.
