The Ohio Association of Student Leaders is an organization dedicated to the teaching of leadership skills, organizational skills, and people skills valuable to the members and officers of all student organizations!

Winter Retreat Overview

Thank you to our seventy one middle school students, high school students, and staff members who came together to learn about people building, and the importance of raising up those around us and building foundations of trust within our teams!

Our virtual retreat once again proved that when OASL brings motivated student leaders together, valuable dialogue and learning takes place! We look forward to continuing to a virtual Winter Retreat in future years, as the weather in February & March can be unpredictable.

Why good leaders make you feel safe | Simon Sinek

OASL's "Leaders Eat Last" session was centered on this video of management theorist Simon Sinek. Sinek suggests that a great leaders is someone who makes their employees feel secure, who draws staffers into a circle of trust. But creating trust and safety means taking on big responsibility.

In the spring of each year, the Ohio Association of Student Leaders comes together for its Annual State Conference.

OASL is grateful to the Medina High School Student Council, Advisors Laura Calaiacovo and Marcie Komar, and the administration at Medina High School. Your time and passion in planning for this year's conference is much appreciated. We hope we will be able to meet in Medina in the future. Your support of and involvement in our organization for more than 50 years is truly remarkable.

This year, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the conference will be a single-day event hosted virtually via Zoom. Student leaders and advisors will connect with peers from across the state of Ohio. The conference will include exciting large group sessions, informative and engaging small group breakouts, an inspiring keynote speaker, and will conclude with a celebration of leadership and Ohio's outstanding student leaders. Schools may send any number of advisors and delegates to this year's conference.

An important component of the Annual State Conference is the process of electing new representatives to the OASL Executive Board. Senior High students elect 4 new candidates to serve on the executive board, while middle school students vote for 2 candidates to serve on the executive board. Each member school may have 1 candidate participate in the election process. More information for those interested in pursuing this position may be found by clicking on "PDF" below.

Finally, member schools have the opportunity to participate in OASL's Awards program. Please click on the Awards tab on our Home Page for more information.

Big picture

A non-profit partner of Ohio's secondary schools since 1953, The Ohio Association of Student Leaders provides transformative leadership education and development experiences for middle and high school students. We are dedicated to the teaching of leadership skills, organizational skills, and people skills valuable to the members and officers of all student organizations. OASL empowers leaders from ALL student organizations to pursue their individual dreams, and embrace their individual passions for one common goal: to create positive change in our Ohio schools & communities.

OASL wants all students to find their purpose and to refine & enhance their skills to meet the ever-changing needs within our schools. Our students learn how to better work together in today’s world and discover new & effective paths to success. OASL strives to connect diverse student leaders who are serving in leadership roles to others who also want to positively impact the world.

For the past 67 summers, Summer Workshop has been OASL’s signature and premier experience that has been described by many as life-changing and the highlight of their summer. This packet includes all the information you’ll need to nominate and register one or more outstanding student leaders in Middle Level (entering grades 7-9) or Senior High student leaders (entering grades 10-12) for OASL’s 5 day, 4 night summer camp opportunity.

These summer programs encourage the development of leadership skills, improve understanding of setting and achieving worthy goals, and inspire young leaders to accept challenges and responsibilities. Our challenge to them is that they return to their schools & communities with knowledge, convictions and understanding which will empower them to positively impact all they encounter. Our summer programming also facilitates life long connections between Ohio’s student leaders.

The Ohio Association of Student Leaders invites your students to be a part of our organization. OASL will positively impact and elevate student leaders in all organizations, clubs, athletic teams and school groups in Ohio. We hope you will support your students as they learn to serve, connect, and inspire their peers, their families, their schools, their communities and their world.

*In the event "in person" workshops are not possible due to COVID-19, we will once again utilize our growth mindsets to transform our leadership workshops into an impactful and engaging online experiences for our participants!
