Mrs. Harris' Class News
September 28 - October 9
What We've Been Up To
Math - In math, students have learned how to round and are currently focusing on addition and subtraction with regrouping.
Reading - in reading, we are currently in one of my most favorite units - inferencing. We will be using several books by the children's author, Chris Van Allsburg, to practice this skill. We are also working on identifying cause/effect relationships and comparing settings and characters in reading groups. We have really accomplished a lot during the first quarter!
Writing - In writing, students are finishing up learning about past and present verbs in Mrs. Kennedy's class, and will soon be working on commas in a series.
History- Students have entered one of the largest third grade history units - Explorers. In this unit, third graders will learn about Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de Leon, Christopher Newport, and Jacques Cartier. This information will include each explorer's motivation for exploring, the countries that sponsored each, and their accomplishments.
