Artist of the Month
Asya Jones
In Mrs. Kerins Modern Art and Design class, Asya and her classmates are studying the famous Pop artist, Peter Max. Peter Max is an American artist well known for using bright colors in his Pop art works. Pot art is an art movement that started in the mid 1950's. This very different art type used simple images and icons of things that were popular in the modern world, like famous celebrities or commercial items. It reflected things that people would use or see every day. Pop artists works with bright and vivid colors such as yellow, red and blue. They would sometimes repeat the same object but with different colors and lines. They would include bold lines and dots, shading, and contrasting colors.
Asya chose to do a sunset for her art piece because sunsets are so beautiful with all the different colors blending together. The oranges and yellows next to the purple make the sun and the rays pop. The shading from the dark blue to the light blue shows the different colors of the ocean, and the sun rays help break up the painting, so it looks more appealing to the eye.
