Everything You Need to Know for Reopeing
March 10, 2021
a note from the principal
Bus Riders
Parents/Guardians of bus riders must complete the DPS Attestation Form for Bus Riders in order for students to board the bus. If the paper form is not completed then the bus driver will call the school, the school will call the parent, and the bus will wait for the parent to come back to the bus stop with either the form or to take the child back home. As you can imagine this could be very problematic, resulting in a late bus and late arrival to school. We will make sure every bus rider has enough forms each week. This form DO need to be completed for the first day of school, March 15th. We have copies available in the front and back entrances of the building. You can also print a copy by clicking on the link above.
Morning Arrival
Students can be dropped off as early as 7:15 AM in the carline, at the front of the building. There will be no parking and walking students into the building for the remainder of the school year. All car riders should remain in car until they are screened.
Kindergarten students will walk into the building through their outside classroom door. First through fifth will use the front doors.
***Please see the maps below for more detailed information.
Daily Symptoms Screener App
The daily screener app and website will launch for students on Monday, March 15th. All parents and guardians will need to complete the form daily for students who are returning to in-person learning. Please take a moment to view this informational video for further instructions. It is important to complete this form prior to sending your child to school. If the form is not completed you will get a phone call shortly after the start of the school day asking you to complete the form.
Daily In-Person Screening
In addition to the daily screening app and the bus attestation form, staff members will be taking student temperatures before students exit the car and after they get off the bus.
Afternoon Dismissal
Students will be dismissed at 2:15 PM. In order to allow for social distancing during dismissal, afternoon carline will be in the back of the building. Please see the attached map for more detail. Plan on turning on the southernmost entrance of Lebanon Circle (NOT the side with the light).
Wellness Wednesday
There will still be district and school wellness resources available for students on Wednesday and classroom teachers will hold a morning meeting at a time TBD and communicated by the classroom teacher. Students need to either login to Canvas and complete wellness activities or join the Morning Meeting to get counted as present for the day.
Virtual Class Schedule
We tried to keep the virtual schedule as close to the previous schedule as possible but some changes have been made. You can view the new schedule here. Students will still have an hour lunch and breaks. The biggest change is that instruction will not be more spread out over the course of the day. Link to virtual schedule.
Sickness
If a student becomes ill during the school day, they will be taken to our sickroom which is Trailer 1. Parents will be notified and can pull to the back of the building to pick-up their child. A front office staff member will remain with the child until the parent arrives.
Recess
Students will be paired with another class for recess to limit contact. Masks will be worn on the playground and students will be permitted to use the equipment but will need to hand sanitizer before and after.
Specials
Students will receive art, music, PE, and guidance/tech/media each week. The specials teacher will teach in each classroom instead of having the students move around the building. The PE class will be outside as much as possible.
Lunch
The students will eat breakfast and lunch in the classrooms. Breakfast carts will be at the beginning of each hallway so students may pick up a bag on their way to class. Lunch will be delivered to the hallways in packaged containers.
Compliance
I realize there are a lot of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures we are asking you to follow. Please know these are all put in place to keep our students, staff, and families safe. Fortunately for any family who has difficulty with compliance we have a virtual option for the remainder of the year. When it comes to the mask policy, bus attestation form, and symptom screener, we will operate on three strikes and you are back to virtual.
Change of Learning Preference
To assist with academic and safety planning, students who have chosen virtual learning or in-person learning on the February 2021 Learning Preference Survey will remain in that learning environment until the end of the 2020-2021 school year. In rare instances, consideration to change the February 2021 response may be requested by the parent/guardian by completing this form if an emergency or significant extenuating circumstance has occurred. Please submit one form per child.
