Curriculum Update

Reading: In Kindergarten, we have been working hard to practice reading strategies to figure out tricky words. We will continue supporting students in this process as they are learning to think and talk about books with others. Reading the books that are in the book buddy bags help your child to practice strategies and increase their reading fluency. Thank you for taking time out of your busy days to listen to your child read to you at least 3 times a week. Please sign the reading log inside the book buddy bag and return to school the next day.

Math: We've finished our Unit on Measurement in February. We've moved into Understanding Number and Number Relationships The students will learn methods to solve number stories, how to justify their answer, how teen numbers lay the foundation for place value, ways to decompose numbers and show the parts of the same number in different ways.

Writing: We will begin our unit on writing a personal narrative next week. During this unit we will focus on small moments. They will practice how to tell their story in detail. A small moment is a real life story about one thing that happened in one place at one time.

Science: As Spring has arrived, we will be focusing on Seasonal Changes and Weather Safety. Some focus questions we will be thinking about are:

What is a season?

How can weather be described?

What is severe weather and what should be done when it occurs?

Social Studies: Our young students continue to develop strong character through the use of the 7 habits.
