Finley Farms Community,
On Monday, January 25th all GPS families received an update from GPS Administration announcing all schools will transition to five days full-time in-person learning beginning Monday, February 1st. The notification also outlined information regarding how GPS will monitor active COVID-19 cases on a school by school basis outlined as follows:
As an additional mitigation strategy and to continue to support minimizing the spread of COVID-19, when in full-time in-person learning we will use a school by school temporary hybrid learning model approach. If an individual school reaches the percentages below for active cases per campus population, a decision may be made for that school to move temporarily to a hybrid instructional delivery model for a minimum of 14 days. An active case is defined as a student or staff member that has been participating in on-campus activities and has tested positive for COVID-19. Once an individual is cleared to return to campus they are no longer considered an active case. Decisions regarding moving to temporary hybrid learning will be made on Wednesdays and all affected will be notified immediately of hybrid learning going into effect the following Monday.
Percentage of active cases per campus population to determine school moves to temporary hybrid learning model:
- 1% for High Schools
- 1.5% for Junior High Schools
- 2% for Elementary Schools
- 5 active cases for Canyon Valley School
- 3 active cases for RISE Junior High School

The staff at Finley Farms Elementary has spent time this week preparing for the transition by reviewing health and safety mitigation strategies with cohorts as it pertains to having a full campus moving forward, curriculum planning to prepare for the shift from hybrid, and facilitated class discussions to review adjustments students will experience as we transition back to five day week full-time in-person learning. We are excited for the opportunity to engage in the traditional in-person learning model on a consistent basis moving forward while also continuing to be steadfast in our implementation of health and safety precautions.
Specific to next week, students will continue with academic lessons as normal while also participating in activities to ensure for a smooth transition back to full class structures after being in a different learning model for almost two months. I encourage all families to partner with us and support your child(ren) by having conversations with your student(s) about the adjustment they will be experiencing and brainstorming strategies to help ensure a successful transition both for at home routines and on campus. Here at the Farm the staff and I have discussed how due to the length of time in hybrid, February 1st will in a sense be another "first day" where basic expectations and review of routines are integral to our success. As a parent myself, I know my 6th grader will be going through some at home routine adjustments as he prepares for five day in-person learning. Communicating with our children, allowing their voice to be heard, and partnering to develop plans for a transition such as this will be a vital foundational step to support their success.
Should you have immediate questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly via email (keegan.bassett@gilbertschools.net) or call the office at 480.507.1624 and we will assist. Please continue reading through each section of this Falcon Flyer for pertinent information as we partner together to support our students.
Thank you for your continued support.
