Jim Marshall Parent Session
Dude, Be Nice! Spread Kindness
FMS Counseling: Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Horstmeier & Ms. Jo
#ICANHELP is coming back to FMS
Kim Karr with #icanhelp will be at FMS on Tuesday, November 21st. There will be grade level assemblies for students. We invite parents and guardians to a family session at 1:00 p.m. in the gym. We want you to assist your student in stamping out negativity on social media. Kim is an excellent presenter and will have great information to share.
We understand some parents work during the day, but being the day before Thanksgiving Break were limited in our times. We will work to share her resources for those that can’t attend.
To follow the #Icanhelp visit to FMS we will be having a Dude, Be Nice! week when we return from Thanksgiving Break. We hope all students will participate! #choosekind
Jim Marshall with Cody's Gifts Parent Presentation
Mr. Marshall spoke to the student body of FMS during Red Ribbon Week. We know how important his message is and invited him back for a parent session on December 15th. This is the same evening as the FMS School Dance. We hope that parents/guardians will plan to attend this event. More info coming soon!

6th Grade Band:
The students have been working through their books and are making AMAZING progress. There are times when we get to go back and students can pick lines out of the book that we have played in the past and playing them again, and they absolutely love and are amazed at the progress they have made.
We are working on some new teaching strategies in class, we are starting to sing our parts before we play them (no, we are not turning them into a choir ;) ). This has made a huge difference and their playing has improved a ton!
Students should be practicing at home as much as possible. We are going to start preparing for our Winter Concert which will take place on Tuesday, December 19. The concert will be split into two parts and more information will come out as it becomes available as far as times are concerned.
The dress for the December concert is the same at it was for the concert last week. Concert black and white. Please make arrangements so your child has clothes that meet the expected dress. If you have any problems getting these clothes please feel free to get in contact with me and I will help you!
Cherry dale orders will be delivered on November 16. If your child sold a lot of Cherry dale merchandise please make plans to come to the middle school after school and pick up their orders in the cafeteria.
Practice for this weekend:
#66, 67, 68 ,69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74
7th Grade Band:
The students have began preparation on the music for the December concert. There are things that we can still work on as a group and I think a quick conversation at home from parents about talking in class would be beneficial!
I am enjoying getting to work with this group and we are starting to think about solos for Central Methodist University Music Festival. I have had the students sign up and I am going to have solos picked by Thanksgiving Break. I am going to give them the music and they are to be able to play me their solo before Christmas break, if they cannot at least play through it they will not be allowed to attend the festival.
Cherry dale will be delivered November 16 and will be available for pick up after school or in the cafeteria that evening.
Homework for this weekend:
Bb scale and sheet music
8th Grade Band:
Get ready for chair auditions kiddos!! I am super excited to see what the next concert has in store for us and we need to hit the ground running.

HORNET SINGERS:
Nice work this week! We have had a few days of sectional rehearsals. This allows students to identify the portions of our repertoire that are tricky for them, and to rehearse independently and in small groups!
Practice recordings AND accompaniment tracks have been posted to our Google Classroom. These allow students to work independently on their concert repertoire anywhere they have internet!
If your student does not have a choir polo shirt, they may be purchased from Dr. Moebes for $13 for sizes S-XL. XXL available for $15. The fee may be paid in full, or in smaller payments as needed.
HORNET PRIDE:
It is officially Winter Concert season in 7th grade choir! These singers are doing excellent work with their 3 selections for our December concert!

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Just so you can plan, please be aware that there is no uniform for this ensemble. Singers should dress nicely for our concert. No jeans, t-shirts, or tennis shoes please. Feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions!
Music 6:
Music 6 had a field trip this Thursday, November 16th! Mr. Matthew Capestro performed a private concert of piano and pipe organ literature for our classes at First Christian Church! We had a BLAST, and enjoyed the concert, Q/A session, and tour of the pipe room! THANK YOU to Rev. Mindy Kiepe and First Christian Church for hosting our group!
Check out the pictures and our video reflections from our trip!
ARTS ALIVE 8:
These kids are ON FIRE! Listen below to one of the newest original songs for our upcoming musical! Students didn't know I was recording the sound for this song. This is remarkable for only about 10-15 minutes of composing and rehearsal!
The creativity in this group is truly inspiring! May the adventure continue, full steam ahead! We are entering the costuming and prop gathering phase of our production!
Check out the sneak preview of the audio for one of the songs in our musical!
Please make sure to join us for our December 18th, at 7pm at FHS Allbritton Theatre!

News from the Art Room
6th grade are in the final stretch of their “Torn Animal” projects, and they have exceeded my expectations. My whole 5th period got a positive referral this week and they have been demonstrating what we are all about here at FMS. I have given several Positive Referrals to my 6th period as well. We are rocking it!
7th grade are working on a perspective project, and we are working to knock those out after Thanksgiving. They will be starting a mini unit on the Elements and Principles of Art, which they will have a test on, after Thanksgiving. I have imported study guides into their class folder. Please review them with your students and check for understanding. We will be learning about them in class.
8th grade are finishing up our Tree Trilogy Projects and we will be moving into new projects after the break.
All the best to you, and your families over the Holiday break, and as always if you have any questions, or concerns please contact me at cchapman@fulton58.org
Artfully yours,
Mr. Chapman

Items currently needed for the store are:
Any age appropriate toys, DVD's for the holidays.
As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Slim jims, and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
All other items are appreciated as well.
