AMS Choir Students Qualify for Advanced Regional Choirs
By Hallie Leyva and Reese Harz
AMS Journalism Staff Editors
On October 9, ten students representing the AMS choir program competed in a competition in Keller that included over 600 students from 30 different schools in the region. Under the direction of Carnell Simmons and after many hours of one-on-one practice as well as private and online coaching, AMS proved once again that it is growing greatness as two choir members qualified for the advanced regional choirs. Kaitlin Brummer advanced to the Honor Treble Choir, and Mackenzie Lear advanced to the Select Treble Choir.
Both Kaitlin and Mackenzie have always loved singing and performing. Mackenzie began her experience in choir in the second grade while Kaitlin began in the sixth grade. Now, both girls serve as officers in the AMS Choir and practice daily to improve their singing skills. When asked where they hope this experience will take them in the future, Kaitlin and Mackenzie stated, “All-State in high school choir!”
On November 6, Kaitlin and Mackenzie will both perform in the Region 30 Middle School and Junior High Concert, hosted by Weatherford High School at 4 p.m. Congratulations to these two talented and outstanding students!

Aledo ISD Using Raptor for Volunteer Background Checks
The Aledo ISD is now using the Raptor system for background checks for district and campus volunteers. This system will operate much like the Raptor system does for parents who check in at the campus front desk for lunch with a student; however, it will complete a full background check that is valid for one year. This means you will need to indicate whether you’re a volunteer or a visitor when you check in at the campus front desk.
You may begin the background check process through your campus at the front desk or by clicking on the link provided on the district’s Volunteers webpage. If you have previously completed a background check for this school year, you do not need to complete a new background check. If your campus indicates you are not in the system yet but you have completed the background check, you or the campus may contact the Human Resources Department directly, at 817-441-8327, ext. 1004. Please do not complete the background check additional times in the same school year unless directed by the district, as this will cause a duplication and will slow the approval process.
Once approved in the Raptor system, you will receive an email notification from Raptor.
We are also asking this year that you track your volunteer hours. There is a link on the district’s Volunteers webpage and in your Raptor approval email, to access the AISD Volunteer Portal where you can track your volunteer hours. It is important to note that:
If you are checked in through the front desk as a volunteer in the Raptor system, your volunteer hours will automatically be calculated and added to your AISD Volunteer Portal.
If you volunteer outside of school or school hours, you will need to log in and manually register your volunteer hours in the AISD Volunteer Portal.
