IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR
Survey time! Your partnership and input is invaluable! Please take a few minutes to take the LCAP Community Survey. We need your input for the 2022-23 school year. We hope you will take the time to fill out the many surveys that will be coming your way over the next few months. We use your input and feedback to continue to improve our practice and create learning experiences that meet the needs of our students.

FARNHAM STUDENTS GIVING BACK
4th Grade Farnham Students recently held a Panda-themed bake sale and trinket sale to raise money for Pandas International in honor of their classmate Katie, who passed away in December and loved pandas. Both events sold out of items and they raised over $1,200 for the charity. Thank you to all those who supported the events and to the generous Farnham community! Way to make a difference, Farnham!

Social Emotional Student Check-In
In order to learn more about student experiences across the Cambrian School District, we have partnered with Kelvin Education this year to conduct district-wide student surveys for children in grades Pk-8. Through these surveys, the school will gain valuable information about the social-emotional needs of our students and the climate and culture of our schools. The results of these surveys help inform both school-based and district-wide initiatives to support the social and emotional health of our community.
Kelvin Education is a leader in the field of education data collection and analysis. Their surveys have been used by school districts across the country. The use of Kelvin Education’s research validated survey instruments and data management platform will provide us with comprehensive, user-friendly reports to inform programming to improve school climate and culture, students’ social emotional learning, and family and community engagement.
The survey gathers information on the following:
Student/Family Engagement: How involved are students/families with their schools?
Social-Emotional Learning: How do students perceive their development of social-emotional skills like self-management and resilience?
School Climate: How do you see the overall social and learning climate of the school?
Teacher/Student and Family Relationships: How strong is the social connection between teachers and students within and beyond school?
If you are interested in learning more about the research and findings that support these studies and data collection, please take a look at a recent brief from Penn State on The Integration of Two Approaches: School Climate and Social and Emotional Learning (It's not 'brief', but it is insightful.)
How will students take the Kelvin Education survey?
When: The survey will be administered between March 2022 and June 2022.
How: The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment is a Federal Law that requires us to notify parents ahead of time about the survey and give them the opportunity to review it in advance so they can let us know if they do not want their child to take part. A copy of the survey can be provided upon request. The deadline to opt-out on behalf of the student is March 18, 2022. The opt-out will need to be provided to the school in writing.
We appreciate your time and attention to this, as well as your support as we look to understand the climate in our schools and how we can best benefit our students' social and emotional health.
If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact your school site principal.
SUSPECT APPREHENDED
From Superintendent Schwiebert:
As the CSD Superintendent, but also as a parent, I felt it important to make you aware of the following news. With this in mind, I’d like to remind you that it is important that we take the time to sit down with our children and discuss safety when outside the home and what to do if a stranger approaches them. Thank you for your partnership. Together we can keep our community safe for our students.
From the San Jose Police Department:
The San José Police Department's Sexual Assault Investigations Unit with assistance from the Special Operations METRO Unit arrested James Couch on March 7, 2022.
On October 27, 2021, a juvenile female victim reported that she was walking alone near Ida Price Middle School when the suspect stopped his vehicle next to her, asked her for directions, and exposed his genitals.
On November 3, 2021, a juvenile female victim reported that she was walking home on Coit Drive when the suspect stopped his vehicle next to her, asked her for directions, and exposed his genitals.
On December 15, 2021, a juvenile female victim reported that she was walking home on Leigh Avenue when the suspect stopped his vehicle next to her, asked her for directions, and exposed his genitals.
Based on the incident details, suspect description, and criminal pattern, all three incidents appeared to be connected.
SJPD sought the public’s help to identify the indecent exposure suspect. The suspect’s description, sketch, and vehicle information we re-released for possible leads on the investigation.
A new victim observed the press release and disclosed an unreported incident of indecent exposure in the same area. The victim provided similar details and description of the suspect and vehicle.
Furthermore, another juvenile victim of indecent exposure from approximately a year ago, observed the press release and believed her incident was connected based on the suspect sketch and vehicle details.
With assistance from the SJPD Crime Analysis Unit, Suspect Couch was identified as a possible suspect. Detectives again contacted the victims independently and Suspect Couch was positively identified as the perpetrator of the crimes.
Suspect Couch was arrested in Santa Clara and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on five counts of Indecent Exposure – PC 314.1 and three counts of Annoy or Molest a child under 18 years old – PC 647.6(a)(1).
Persons with information regarding these incidents or any other similar incidents are urged to contact Detective Chan #4370 of the San José Police Department's Sexual Assault Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4102 or at 4370@sanjoseca.gov.
Submit crime tips and remain anonymous by using the P3TIPS mobile app, calling the tip line at (408) 947-STOP, or on www.svcrimestoppers.org. If the information you submit leads to an arrest, you are eligible for a cash reward from the Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers Program.
