The Hidden Gem
El Carmelo Elementary School September 3, 2020
Please email email@example.com or call (650)856-0960 any time your child misses a block for any reason. Contacting the teacher is not sufficient. Our attendance clerk, Ginny Nagao, needs to be notified as well.
We appreciate your support with this. El Carmelo, and all public schools in California, are required to monitor student attendance, engagement, and participation during distance learning. These areas are clear during in-person instruction. You help in notifying the office, allows us to better provide appropriate supports for your child.
Minimum Day on Friday, September 4th: Dismissal for grades 1-5 is @ Noon
Minimum Day Tomorrow for the Labor Day Holiday Weekend!
This is a friendly reminder that all students and staff are dismissed at 12:00 tomorrow and that we have no school on Monday in honor of Labor Day.
The kindergarten schedule remains the same. Students will be dismissed at 11:50 AM
Students in grades 1-5 will not have a lunch period tomorrow. Instead, Block 3 will run from 10:35-12:00.
PiE Challenge Grant: Double Your Donation!
Your PiE donations are essential to ensure our students receive the enhanced supports they need during distance learning and beyond by September 8th.
Last year’s donations allowed PiE to provide
$171,927 to El Carmelo for the 2020-2021 school year, funding:
- Classroom aides to facilitate individualized and small group academic support online and when we return to school.
- Spectra Art
- Music and dance lessons

PiE Funded SPECTRA Art
PiE provides funding for our full-time, five days a week, CASSY counselor, Emily Tahamont, who provides social and emotional classroom lessons and school-based counseling with our students.
Thank you for recognizing the importance of music and dance in creating a well-rounded educational experience for our students. As a result of your thoughtful donation to PiE, all El Carmelo students receive music instruction each week. Our primary students in grades K-2 receive dance in the spring!
Our students also receive SPECTRA Art instruction as a result of your generous donations to PiE! This type of enrichment is unheard of in most California public schools.
Take a look at what SPECTRA Art will include during distance learning in two informative brochures below.
