Havelock North Primary School 23rd February 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Friday was a lot of fun with the Art Deco dress up. It was obviously a real shame that Covid got in the way of this annual event, but it was certainly nice to be able to celebrate this special occasion in our own backyard.
Today we held our school swimming sports. This was to take place last Thursday, however cold southerlies and an outstanding long term forecast meant we made an informed decision for the enjoyment of everyone, especially the students. A big thank you to Emily Cooper and her team for their organisation. Thank you also to our wonderful students who gave 100% and the supporters.
Last week we had our first board meeting of the year, welcoming new members Catherine Wedd and Jeremy Hunt. Kelly Ives was elected as the Presiding Member (Board Chair) with Steph Maloy as her Deputy.
Learning Conferences are next Tuesday 2nd March and Wednesday 3rd March from 3:20 - 6:30pm both nights. These are ten minutes in duration and are an opportunity for parents and teachers to do some goal setting. One academic goal and one personal goal, will be set. These goals will be revisited at the Term 3 conferences. Students may be in attendance, although we will leave that decision up to you. We do like students to be present for the Term 3 conferences.

As these are 10 minute interviews, school will not close early on either day.
Have a great week everyone.

Chugs
Chugs is our Friday morning running club run by one of our wonderful mums, Hannah Du Plessis parkeshannah@hotmail.com
We meet at 7.20am at the school hall, ready to run at 7.30am after a few dynamic stretches and lots of frivolity! Breakfast afterwards, bring your cereal (in a lidded container, along with a spoon please) and we’ll supply the milk. Or pre-made smoothies are a super easy option.
If it’s wet and we call it off, I will email you all on these addresses before 6:30am. No email means we’re running.
Please email Hannah if you’d like to know more about this wonderful opportunity.
School Donations
The first board meeting of 2021 was held last Wednesday. At this meeting it was decided to keep school donations the same as they have been for the past two years.
$200 for one child
$350 for 2 children
$480 for 3 children
$610 for 4 children
$130 for any extra children over and above this.
Thank you.

Supper Club
We are calling for a list of volunteers who can be called on a couple times a year to contribute.
The families in need are normally nominated by someone and we then arrange to have the meals collected by the family or delivered to their home.
We wish to respect the privacy of families receiving meals and baking so we will be keeping this information confidential.
Havelock North New World have provided silver trays and labels, you can collect these from the hall to put the food into.
For those keen to support, but not keen on cooking, a bought family pie and frozen vegetables are always welcome.
If you are able to assist in supporting The Supper Club, please email Sophie Sowman who is organising this at sophie@archerfoods.nz who will be in touch with more details. It’s an easy feel good club we’d love you to put your hand up for.
Thank you!
Property Update
Solar Panels
The newly installed 60 solar panels on the Room 21-23 roof. Thanks again to Isaac's Plumbing, Pumping and Electrical (Gavin and Chloe Streeter). You are legends!
Security Cameras
Over the holiday period, we have installed three further security cameras around the school to deter and detect an increasing amount of vandalism that is occurring outside of school hours.
Added to broken bottles and playground damage, our four new hexagonal tables were in need of repair. These tables have now been bolted down to minimise further damage. This mindless behaviour really is extremely frustrating.
Produce & Bake Sale Year 6 Fundraiser
There will be a produce and bake sale on Thursday afternoon from 2:45-3:30pm outside the school hall and in the quad area. Proceeds from this fundraising will go towards Year 6 camp 2021 and reducing the cost of NYLD (National Young Leaders) in May.
