The green grass, crack of the late night softball bat, BBQ chicken on the grill, the starting whistle at the track meet and fragrant flowers abound. Ahhhh the sights, sounds and smells of springtime in our beautiful mountains!

Doc and Ceci Ransom Memorial Scholarship
First Baptist Church is pleased to announce the Doc and Ceci Ransom Memorial Scholarship will be available again for the 2023-24 academic year. This scholarship was made possible by long-time Yancey County residents, Doc and Ceci Ransom, for the purpose of providing financial assistance to students who are active in their communities and have the desire to continue serving the communities they live in. Membership in First Baptist Church is not required and any Yancey County resident (including former recipients) who wishes to pursue higher education is encouraged to apply.
The deadline for submission of curriculum applications plus all required documentation is 3:00 pm on April 11.
OLLIE ANN GOWEN SCHOLARSHIP/AWARD
The purpose of this scholarship/award is to foster advanced education for a young
woman who is pursuing additional education.
The scholarship/award may be used at any institution of higher learning. It may be
applied toward costs of tuition, fees, books, residence hall expenses, meal plan, or
other items pertaining to the cost of attending your college.
Applicants for the award must:
1. Have graduated from an accredited high school or home school.
2. Have been accepted to an accredited institution of higher learning.
3. Enter a program which will lead to a diploma or certification.
4. Complete Application Form and Answer Essay Prompt.
5. Show evidence of broad interests and leadership roles in worthwhile
activities in school and the community.
6. Show evidence of the character and citizenship traits which would
indicate the maturity necessary to succeed in a higher education
environment.
7. Be female.
8. Be a resident of Yancey County.
This scholarship/award will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence,
character, and leadership qualities without regard to financial need.
Deadline is April 30, 2023 with no exceptions. Return the completed
application and supporting documents to the Guidance Counseling
Department. Scholarship/Award will be announced in May, 2023.
Workforce Development Regional Scholarships
NCHBECF will award one $1,000 scholarship to community college or technical school students in NCHBA’s Region 8. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are entering a program considered to be a skilled trade in the construction industry. OPEN TO ALL
DEADLINE - April 30, 2023
Education Foundation Scholarship Program
Available to full or part-time students studying in a construction related field (Project Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineer, Surveyor). Up to $1,000 awarded to each recipient. OPEN TO ALL
DEADLINE - May 16, 2023
