Message from the Principal
Hello Willow Dale Families!
Happy Mother's Day to our Willow Dale moms! May your day be filled with peace, love, and memories.
"A child’s first teacher is its mother." – Peng Liyuan
The Willow Dale ABC Countdown began on May 9. See the activity calendar for the last 26 days of school in the newsletter.
As many of you know, last week was Teacher Appreciation Week nationwide. A big thank you goes out to our Home and School for the wonderful lunch that was presented to our teachers. We have incredible, passionate teachers that work extremely hard each and every day. An “Appreciation Station" is set up in the cafeteria for students to thank a teacher or staff member (past or present) for their impact and dedication. The table will be set up until the end of this week to allow all students the opportunity to participate.
Fine Arts Week was a huge success. Each evening was filled with one outstanding performance after another. The students and staff outdid themselves. Check out the video below that provides a glimpse of the fantastic week.
End of year benchmark assessments are underway across the grade levels. FastBridge (K-2), NWEA MAP (3-5) and Fountas and Pinnell reading levels will be administered into June. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.
The next Home and School meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at 6:15 pm. Our annual Fun Fair will take place on Friday, May 17 at 5 PM. Thanks to our Home and School, many fun-filled activities have been planned. Don’t miss out on this evening of family fun.
We look forward to seeing you this week.
Have a great week!

ABC Countdown
Try a New App
Our first ABC Countdown day focused on trying a new computer application. Here are a few apps you might want to check out. These apps are all free, some with a full version available for purchase at a fee.
SpeakaZoo – This app allows children to speak to 20 animals across 4 different habitats. A fun app that children love!
Duolingo- Learn Languages for Free – Want to start your child on another language or brush up on one yourself? This app provides practice for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and English. There are fun ways to challenge friends and family in your learning of the language of choice. A fun app to try for the whole family!
Tellagami – This app has quickly become a favorite of mine! It allows you to create an avatar, select a background and either record your voice or type in a message that is spoken in one of the voices that is offered in the app. It is great fun and super easy! This would be a great way to have children record what their reading is about or send a special message to family or friends.
Brainfeed – We all need to feed our brains with new information. This app provides you access to a bank of short documentary type videos that tell you about the world around you and how things work. Want to know why we age? Learn more about space from the perspective of the Hubble telescope? Want to know about landmarks across the nation? This app is great for all ages.

Student Dress Reminders
As the Spring season is upon us, it is important to remember to dress according to the weather.
Hopefully, the days will become and remain warm and dry (at least during the school day), which will lead to more time spent outside on the playground! To that end, it is essential that students are coming to school prepared for the various weather conditions we will experience. As the temperatures do rise, please remember that flip flops, slides, and sandals are not permissible as footwear, as they pose a safety concern throughout the building and outside on the playground.
We don’t want anyone to sustain an injury!
Additionally, please be reminded that the school is air-conditioned and can be cooler inside.
Thank you for your support.
