A Note from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Sandburg Families,
I have included a few updates in this newsletter for families.
- Sincere thanks to the Sandburg PTSA and all the parents who came out to the Fall Fest. While we were disappointed to not have the event outside, it was still wonderful to have the kids at school having fun in the gym and the multi-purpose room. Stay tuned for details about our next event in January- the Winter Warm-Up!
- The first quarter ended on October 13th and 1st Quarter grades will be finalized on October 27th. Grades will be available in Infinite Campus. The second quarter starts on Monday the 16th.
First period classes start promptly at 7:35 am. We still have students arriving after 7:35, which means they are beginning their day without the morning announcements and important information that is shared at the start of the school day. If your child is frequently absent or tardy to school, we are happy to partner with you to address the situation.
In order to support a smooth beginning and conclusion of our classes, the Sandburg staff is starting a First 10/Last 5 plan. Students will not leave the classroom during the first ten minutes and last 5 minutes of each class. Obviously if there is an emergency, teachers may permit students to leave. However, this plan supports a smooth entry and exit to each class which benefits a focused learning environment.
Parent-teacher conferences are held in November during Thanksgiving week. We will communicate the conference process within the next few weeks. We have limited conference times and are dedicated to making sure we have crucial conversations with students and parents we really need to connect with. Please know, we are not able to have a conference with every parent given the limited time. However, we are always happy to have a conversation with parents regarding your child's progress at any time.
Our school staff contact list is updated and available on the D15 website. Feel free to print it and keep it handy in the case you need to get in touch with any of our staff throughout the year.
Boys basketball registration information is included in this newsletter. Volleyball and Wrestling information will come out in following newsletters. If your child wants to tryout for volleyball, please make sure your child's physical is updated and on file in the office.
Have a great Sunday!
Erika Johansen
Sandburg Principal

From The Sandburg Student Services Team
Dear Carl Sandburg Families,
Each year Carl Sandburg participates in several programs that provide goods and services, such as holiday meals, holiday gifts, school supplies, clothing, etc. for families who are experiencing financial difficulties and/or family hardships. Carl Sandburg is making an effort to identify families who would benefit from these programs. If you would like to be considered for any assistance programs, we ask that you complete this Google Form by October 27, 2023. This information is confidential and will be shared only with school administration and school social workers.
Things to consider when deciding if you think you need assistance: your family receives free or reduced lunch, you have had a significant change in your finances that impact your family, you are experiencing a family hardship that makes it difficult for you to provide as you usually do for your family, your family is experiencing homelessness.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Ms. Amy Chandler at 847-963-7875 or email at chandlea@ccsd15.net or Ms. Joanna Rzepka at 847-963-7850 or email at rzepkaj@ccsd15.net.
Sincerely,
The Carl Sandburg Student Services Team

Your Opinion Matters! Complete Our Survey About District 15's Website
District 15's current website provider, Blackboard, was bought out by a company called Finalsite. As a result, we will be converting our website to Finalsite’s content management system. As we prepare for the transition, we see this as an opportunity to gather feedback from our staff, parents/guardians, and community about our current website. Please fill out this quick survey to provide your feedback about our current website. The Communications Department will use the feedback provided to design and plan for our new website. The new website will launch before the 2024-2025 school year. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts with us!
A note from the Sandburg PTSA
CSJH Parents -
Thank you so much to everyone that has contributed to the PTSA this year, either through PTSA Sponsorships or the SnapRiase fundraiser. We have now received donations from approximately 8% of CSJH families.
So far we have raised about 1/3 of our fundraising goal. Without additional support, we will be forced to cancel educational events like the WoW Day Keynote Speaker, and raise admission prices on fun activities like Winter Warm-Up.
If you are financially able, please consider contributing so that we can make these events available and accessible to all students.
Additional fundraiser information is available here (Spanish). Not an email person? That's ok! Once you create an account, you can share our fundraiser via social media or text without entering any email addresses.
Our next PTSA meeting is this Monday, the 16th. Please email Mrs. Johansen if you'd like to join our virtual meeting.
Looking forward to a great year!
Christine Love
PTSA President
