We've Been Busy!
It has been a very busy month. Our community garden is coming along nicely. We've had two volunteers who have been coming in and helping us - Jane and Timothy. Their gardening expertise is much appreciated. The seedlings are growing and the land is worked up. We'll be planting soon. We want to give a shout out to the Education Foundation of Niagara for the grant to help us with this project.
In English, most students have finished their biographies and their research reports. We are moving on to our next unit on Mysteries and Suspense. We'll be reading a selection of short mysteries to determine the criteria for a good story and then students will be writing their own two minute mysteries. We are going to read Agatha Christie's popular play "Mousetrap".
In Personal Life Management, we've discussed what causes stress and strategies to help combat some of it. We even made our own stress balls. We've moved on to Money Sense and responsible consumerism. Students used online flyers and the FLIPP app to find some good deals and then even made DIY gifts to save money. We've been talking about how to create our own budgets.
Some of the students participated in the Change the World Volunteer Challenge where we went to the YWCA to help them organize their spring brochures for mailing. They were very appreciative of our help.
