Note from the Principal's Desk

We are excited to start our fall fundraiser-Tigerthon! Support our school by donating any amount to help raise funds for professional development, school grounds, teacher appreciation, and much more. Check out the PTA's event page https://www.hhes-pta.com/tigerthon

We have noticed many of our young students need to practice literacy skills. This week students in grades K-2 will bring home a daily Read Every Day folder to practice letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words and reading short books. We would greatly appreciate parents support, by reviewing these skills daily. We are in our students successful education TOGETHER! Read about the benefits of children reading 20 minutes a day below.

The school's Accelerated Reader celebration is this Thursday, October 21. Students should continue reading every night and take AR quizzes at school to meet their goal. We look forward to celebrating our readers!

Hispanic Heritage night is Thursday, October 21 and we encourage students to wear their traditional attire during the school day. We celebrate our families and have great virtual activities planned. We look forward to seeing our families!

Let's keep each other safe and do our part by keeping sick students home. Nurse Khan will follow up with parents on reported sick students.

Serving With Gratitude,

Reading for 20 mins. a day

Did You Know?

If a child reads for 20 minutes every day, they are exposed to about 1.8 million words of text every year. That is 137 new words per minute!

If families read together for 20 minutes a day, 7 days a week, they get more than 121 hours of bonding time every year!

Many states use 3rd grade reading scores to predict the number of jail cells they might need in the future. (About 3 out of 5 prisoners in America are illiterate.)

For every year you read with your child, average lifetime earnings increase by $50,000. You make a $250,000 gift to your child from birth to age five by reading aloud, just 20 minutes a day!

Children who have not developed some basic literacy skills by the time they enter school are 3 - 4 times more likely to drop out in later years.
