Grandparents Week and Book Fair were both a huge success!

Grandparents, thank you for coming to spend time at our school last week! We loved having you here with us througout the week. Thank you for the time you spent with us, and thank you for supporting our school book fair. We surpassed our goal - we know it is due, in large part, to your patronage and support. Our grandparents hold a special place in our hearts, and we were happy to open our doors in honor of you last week.

Mystery Dinner Theatre

Fifth Grade REACH entertained us with mystery dinner theatre on October 21. Students came dressed for their part and the evening's planned acting and improv was a hit! I'm sure you can see from the photos below just what how much fun we all had... Thank you, Mrs. Bass, for planning the evening, and thank you, parents, for creating Hollywood at Elm Street.

Elm Street Earns School Bell Award at GAESP Conference in Savannah!

Earlier this week, Dr. Hildebrand attended the GAESP Conference in Savannah, Georgia to accept a 2014 School Bell Award on behalf of Elm Street Elementary. The Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals (GAESP) presents this award each year for outstanding programs in the areas of curriculum and organizational leadership. Elm Street was one of no more than ten schools statewide earning the award this year. Dr. Hildebrand was proud to accept this award for our school in recognition of our Start on Track Program. GAESP found our Start on Track Program to be an innovative and exemplary program brining benefits to our students. As you know, our Start on Track program offers students an opportunity to show their commitment to health and fitness and wake up their bodies and minds by choosing to begin their day outside walking on the track. Students may head out to the track each morning upon arrival on their designated grade level days. Start on Track operates until 7:40 a.m. each morning. Thanks to Ms. Merritt, Ms. Varischetti, and the team of staff members who make this possible each morning for our school. Congratulations on another state award! Way to go, Elm Street!

Heartwarming Second Grade Program

Our Second Graders helped us all get into the holiday spirit with a tribute to Veterans and a salute to Thanksgiving last week. Students opened with This Land Is Your Land and a tribute to our honorable Veterans. Then, they shared their own poems and writings about fall and what Thanksgiving means to them. An acrostic poem spelling out Thanksgiving helped us all remember what the season is all about. Kudos Mr. Tate, students, and teachers on a job well done!
