2018 PARCC Update for Students & Parents
As you know, PARCC testing is right around the corner. Beginning the week of March 19, students in grades 3 - 8 will be taking assessments in both reading and math. Students in grades 3 - 5 will take three units of English Language Arts (ELA) and four units of Math. Students in grades 6 - 8 will take three units of ELA and three units of Math. Please know that we will operate on a testing schedule during this time. Our new schedule may affect regular class times as well as intervention times.
Headphones/Earbuds
On the ELA test, students in grades 3 - 8 will have the opportunity to compare, contrast, and evaluate different forms of text and multimedia. Students may even be asked to view a video or listen to an audio transcript. Students will need headphones or earbuds for this task.
Please take a moment to confirm that your child has a working set of headphones already at school. If headphones are no longer working or cannot be found, please replace these and send to school ASAP. If this is not possible, please reach out to your child’s teacher so we can ensure a set of headphones is available during the testing session.
PARCC for Parents
Preparing for the upcoming test provides a good opportunity to revisit last year’s data. You may recall that score reports were sent home during the October Parent-Teacher Conferences. Make sure you visit https://tinyurl.com/ybzbyeu2 for help with understanding the scores. This website will allow you to see the standards in greater detail and will also provide some helpful strategies for students and parents alike.
You might also want to visit https://tinyurl.com/yb4y99f6 Here you can view tips for success and even take practice PARCC tests. This provides a great opportunity to see PARCC practice items in action.
As always, we appreciate your help and support! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s homeroom teacher.

Kindergarten Round Up
Hollis Grade School is making plans for next year’s Kindergarten class! If you are a resident of the Hollis district and you have a child who will reach the age of 5 before September 1, 2018, please call the Hollis Grade School office at 697-1325 to have your child’s name added to the 2018-2019 Kindergarten Class Roster.
Non-resident families who wish to have their child attend Hollis next school year are also invited to call now! *The tuition rate for nonresident students is $2600 for the current school year. The tuition rate for non-resident students is yet to be determined for the 2018-19 school year.
All incoming kindergarten students must make appointments for our Pre-Registration/Screening Days. Each family will have an opportunity to meet with our building principal and take a brief tour of the building. Each child will meet with the kindergarten teacher and be given a screening assessment. The entire process should take approximately 45 minutes.
At the time of registration & screening, please bring a copy of your child’s CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH (Certificates of Live Birth must be obtained from the county courthouse or the county health department where the child was born. We are unable to accept hospital birth certificates.) In addition, each resident family will be required to provide two proofs of residency. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the office at the number listed above.
