PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE
January 10, 2020
Spring-break like weather yesterday and an ice and snow storm today … amazing! The start of the 2nd semester always brings new students and families to PCMS. We are so proud when we see these students joined by their Student Ambassadors, who cheerfully acclimate them to their new school! They walk their schedule with them, help with their locker combinations, show them how to get their lunch, and make sure they have a new friend to sit with while eating. Joining a new school isn't the easiest thing in the world for an 11, 12, or 13 year-old to do, but knowing we have such thoughtful and caring students to guide and lead them through this transition makes us #PCMSproud!
Be safe out there this weekend!

8th Grade Curriculum Night at PCHS ~ Monday, Jan 13
8th Grade Parents: Please Make Plans to Attend Curriculum Night - Mon, Jan 13, 6:30 pm, PCHS Wilson Auditorium
As we reach the mid-point of the 2019-20 school year, PCHS is planning for the 2020-21 school year and is inviting parents and students to attend Curriculum Night. The purpose of Curriculum Night (formerly known as Parent Night) is to allow you to learn about each core class (English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) from the department's perspective.
We encourage both the student (current 8th graders) and parent(s) to attend so that all can receive the information about courses that are offered at Platte County High School. This will greatly assist you and your student in the planning process and in course selection for the 2020-21 school year.
If you would like more information, please contact your student's counselor: Kim Schank, schankk@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Yearbooks ~ Order Now!
Have you ordered your PCMS student’s 2019-20 yearbook? What better way to preserve their middle school memories!?!
Standard Yearbook Price (Soft Cover) = $20
Upgraded Hard Cover Yearbook Price = $25
The deadline to order is March 23.
You may order either by sending your order form* and money to school with your child OR online at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/Order/SelectJob. Use the Yearbook ID Code: 5014520.
*If you need an extra form, they are available in the office.
Musical Auditions ~ Shrek Jr.
This year's musical production is Shrek Jr! Auditions will be held either Mon, Jan 27 or Wed Jan 29 at PCMS from 3:00-5:00 pm.
Any student in grades 6-8 may choose and attend only ONE audition date (1/27 or 1/29) and should plan on staying for the entirety of the audition.
During the audition, students will learn a song, perform it with a small group, and read through at least one acting scene.
Callback auditions will be Thurs, Jan 30 at PCMS.
Students will not know until the morning of the 30th if they are being called back. All students will not be called back, but this does not mean they will not be cast in the musical.
The final cast list will be posted on Friday, Jan 31.
Musical rehearsals will begin Mon, Feb 3 from 3-5pm.
Shrek Jr performances will be Apr 17 & 18 at 7pm. (If a student cannot be at both performances for any reason, they should not audition.)
We are looking forward to an awesome musical! If you have any questions about the audition process, please contact Emily Mahnken at mahnkene@platteco.k12.mo.us or 816-858-2036 x2622.
Note from the Nurse
If your student is now over the age of 11, they can receive their Meningococcal (MCV) vaccine and their Tetanus, Diphtheria & Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine, both of which are required for his/her 8th-grade year per Missouri State Law.
We are trying to get as many done as possible before the end of the 2019-20 school year so that registration for the next school year will be a bit smoother for everyone. Your child may have already had this done, but we need to have the updated documentation in their school health record. Please check with your child's doctor to see if he/she needs to complete these vaccines. If they have already received these immunizations, please provide written proof to us as soon as possible. Keep in mind; if your student does not have this immunization by their registration day in August, they will not be able to get their schedule nor start on the first day of school.
Last-minute immunization checks can make your wait at registration time much longer than necessary, as well as cause undue stress on you and your child. If you have any questions, please call Nurse Tammy
Kobush at 816.858.2036 Ext 2613.
Updated immunization records may be brought to the Health Room at school, faxed to 816.858.3748 or emailed to kobusht@platteco.k12.mo.us.
Lost and Found
Has your student LOST something at school? There is a good chance we have FOUND it! Our Lost & Found table in the cafeteria is loaded with many items - primarily coats, jackets, sweatshirts, and other things that would come in handy this weekend! (We aren't sure how it's possible to lose "one" shoe, but we have proof that it happens!;) Please ask your student to check the Lost & Found table soon to see if anything belongs to them!
(Students should check in the office for any jewelry or electronic items they may have lost.)
