Weekly Newsletter
I hope your family had a nice weekend. Our campus participated in LISD Kindness Week last week. Many thanks to everyone for participating in our school spirit days last week and encouraged your children to be kind to one another. We saw many kind acts last week between students in our classrooms and hallways. We want to continue encouraging our students to be kind to one another all year long. Great job Bobcats!
Last week, the district informed us that due to lower than projected enrollment in kindergarten, our kindergarten classes would be reduced from 3 to 2. The district moved one of our teachers to another campus in TC with higher than anticipated enrollment. This unfortunately meant that one of our outstanding teachers, Mrs.Abby Olson, was moved to another campus. Mrs. Olson has been a huge part of B.B. Owen and we are all disappointed to see her leave. She was a very active member of our school community and was often seen volunteering to help out with clubs, committees and special events such as our annual curriculum night. No doubt she will continue to make a difference at Ethridge teaching kindergarten and we appreciate her dedication to our students, staff and school community.
I appreciate all of our kinder parents who partnered with us last week to help your children make a smooth transition into Ms. Davis' and Mrs. Baxter's classes. It was great to see all of our students learning, smiling and laughing alongside their new classmates and teachers towards the end of the week.
Please know that there is a district process that has to be followed in situations where a staff member is moved to another campus. It is not a selection by administrators and is done in partnership with our LISD Employee Services Department. One criteria is the number of years in the district and on a campus at the impacted grade level. All our kinder teachers have a lot of experience at B.B. Owen and in LISD which made the loss of one our veteran teachers even more difficult. B.B. Owen has several teachers on our staff right now who were brought to our campus when our numbers were higher in certain grade levels than at neighboring campuses. As you may know, there are areas of growth in certain parts of TC as new housing developments are built on both sides of I21 and zoned to different campuses here in TC.
I hope this brings more clarity on this issue and I welcome you to contact me or Mr. Knapp if you have any questions.
