The First Day is Right Around the Corner!

We hope you all enjoyed Open House this week and we can't wait to see you on the first day of school! Below you will find some important information regarding the start of school on Tuesday, September 6.

Does your child take daily medication?

Please drop off daily medications along with doctor's orders at the Nurse's office so that your child has access to the medication that they need.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast:

Reminder that breakfast and lunch are back to the fee-based system. Breakfast is optional and is available for all students for a fee. Breakfast is free for kindergarten students that choose to eat breakfast. All students choosing to eat breakfast will go directly to the cafeteria when arriving at school. Students will not stop at their classroom or their lockers to ensure they have time to eat. Please make sure your child knows if they should be heading to the cafeteria to get breakfast or not as they will be charged for it.

Lunch/Recess:

Reminder that breakfast and lunch are back to the fee-based system. Students may bring their own lunch if they do not wish to have school served lunch. Space is limited in our cafeteria due to adding more classroom sections this year. If you choose to come to lunch with you child we are unfortunately not able to guarantee that there will be a seat for you as students have priority seating. If you choose to come to lunch, please do not bring outside food and know that we are not able to accommodate siblings due to space limitations. All students participate in 30 minutes of recess daily. Please dress for the weather.

Food Safe Practices

To best protect the students we serve, Rush Creek is taking steps to promote food safe practices by educating students, staff, and parents alike on the dangers that lie in tree nut and peanut consumption on school grounds.

With the growing number of students with food allergies, Rush Creek continues to be a ‘nut-safe’ school. We are not ‘nut-free’, so families can send whatever food and snacks they prefer with their child for self-consumption. However, we ask you to be mindful of our students with severe tree nut, peanut, or other food allergies in certain classrooms. Some students also have asthma, increasing their chances of potentially life-threatening reactions.

Rush Creek Staff are asking you to help us with the ‘Safe’ part of ‘Food-Safe’ and whenever possible avoid sending products containing tree nuts or peanuts. The less nuts we have in the building, the less chance we have for exposure, and the more all our students can feel safe and enjoy themselves here.

To support this effort, sharing of treats, including birthday treats, must be discussed prior with the classroom teacher. Treats must be small, prepackaged, and store bought. We have many other food allergies that can be dangerous to students.

Please know that your efforts to maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students may be saving a life!
