From the Desk of Mr. Novotny

January 4, 2015

Welcome to the NEW Explorer Events Newsletter! We hope that you enjoy this new format. In an attempt to save resources and provide news in a more accessible way to parents, we are converting to this online newsletter. You can find the newsletter and other important information at https://horizon.boiseschools.org/.

We will begin posting our newsletters on our website each month. Once on our homepage please click "Parents and Patrons" and choose "Newsletter". If you are using a smartphone please turn your phone sideways (landscape) as it will be easier to read.

We hope that you enjoy this new format. If you prefer to receive a hard copy, please let your child’s teacher know, and we will send a copy home.

Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education.

We have been contacted by the owners of the office and apartment complex adjacent to the school. It appears that their private lot is being used as a pick up and drop off area for students. We are asking that you use the school parking lot and/or drop off lane instead of the complex lot.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Board President

Vice President (Fundraising Chair)

  • Our current meeting times are from 3:30-4:30 but times could be adjusted for the 2016-17 school year.
  • PTO typically facilitates 2 events and teacher appreciation.

This year alone the PTO has raised approximately $ 8,000 to support the students and staff at Horizon. These funds have been used for classroom supplies, Character Breakfast, and to help off set the cost of Wagon's Ho. Please consider being a part of this valuable organization. If you have questions in regards to the expectations or time commitments for the open board positions, please contact Ashlee Reed at horizonelementarypto@gmail.com.

Just for Kids

ATTENTION KINDERGARTEN AND PRE-KINDERGARTEN PARENTS! Did you know that Horizon has on-site child care for children ages 5-12? We are currently accepting enrollment for Kindergartners, and children who have turned 5 by October 1st, who are looking for care between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm. During our Kindergarten/Pre-School times, JFK focuses on Kindergarten readiness for Pre-Schoolers and assist current Kindergartners by building upon the fundamentals they are learning in school. We have weekly thematic units which assist us in bringing creativity to learning. Children enhance their learning skills through the use of music, dance, stories, dramatic play, and art projects. We us Kindermusik to assist us in becoming more familiar with music theory, and we use Handwriting Without Tears to assist in learning the correct form when producing letters and improving penmanship. The nutrition component of our program stems from Color Me Healthy. Color Me Healthy was developed for kids to help them learn about nutrition, encouraging them to try new foods, and introducing them to areas in which their food comes from. If you are interested, or in need of care, we would love to hear from you! You may contact us anytime between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can find more information, including our rates, on our website at www.boiseschools.org, click on the Parents & Patrons link at the top of the page and then click on the Just For Kids link on the left hand side of the page. You can also stop by or give us a call at 854-5172.
