GES welcomes Michelle Benitiz during National Hispanic Heritage Month
Journalist Michelle Benitiz, acclaimed news anchor at Univision, has a message for young people hoping to reach their potential and accomplish their lifetime dreams.
“The most important thing,” Ms. Benitiz told GETV students during an on-air broadcast this month, “is to do what you love every single day. Try to do more of what you are passionate about.”
Ms. Benitiz, interviewed by 5th Grade journalist Ana Hernandez, has certainly achieved success in her career as the evening and late news anchor and producer at Univision 34 in Atlanta, the No. 1 Hispanic media station in the Southeast Region. Univision is an American Spanish-language television network owned by TelevisaUnivision.
Working at Univision is a pleasure for Ms. Benitez, who has won multiple Emmy Awards and Gabby Awards. Each day presents new opportunities.
“Just moments like this, being with you guys [at Grayson Elementary] is very important to us, reaching out to our communities,” she told her young viewers. “We put on the newscast each evening at 6:00 and 11:00, and we talk about different stories, what happens daily in your parents’ lives, your lives, and what has happened with the weather, and politics.”
Ms. Benitiz is from Ecuador, a small and beautiful country on the Pacific coast of South America, also famous for its province, the Galapagos Islands, considered one of the world's best destinations for wildlife-viewing. She was born in Quito, the Ecuadorian capital.
“We have so many animals, and so much diversity in our country. We speak Spanish, and we speak Kichwa.”
Kichwa is a Quechuan language that includes Quechua varieties of Ecuador, Colombia, and parts of Peru.
“I think it is very important to follow what you really like, your passion, and do a little bit of it every single day,” she told GES students. “And I hope all of you can join me on the newscast.”
