Reading & Writing
This week in reading, we will continue to discuss the theme of fictional texts and elements. We will also analyze how authors convey messages of theme through the story.
Writing:
We will working on our expository composition essay about a career we would like to pursue one day.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we will be ending our unit on the Texas Revolution and will learn about the New Republic of Texas as well as reasons why Texas joined the United States.
Vocabulary to know:
democracy, dictatorship, convention, prohibit, siege, revolution, republic, statehood, country
Math & Science
Math:
We will be continuing our focus on data representation, area and perimeter, and moving into measurement in the metric and customary systems.
Students will need to have a strong understanding of their basic multiplication facts as these units rely heavily on that foundation skill.
Science:
We will continue to identify sequences and predict patterns of changes in shadows, tides, seasons, and in the appearance of the moon. Moon phases are amazing! You can keep a journal of moon phases at home - just draw what the moon looks like each night and put the date. You should see a pattern emerge!
Be sure to check out the super, blue, blood moon as well as the lunar eclipse on Wednesday, Jan. 31!
- Super Moon - the moon is closer to the earth in its orbital path
- Blue Moon - second full moon in the same month
- Blood Moon - because of the lunar eclipse light that is refracted will cause the moon to turn red.
- Lunar Eclipse - when the moon passes behind the earth, and this type of eclipse is safe to look at as the sun is blocked

VISITOR ROUTINES
Whether it's to spend time with your child for breakfast or lunch, or to help out in the classroom, we love having visitors on campus! For the protection of our students and staff, we require that all visitors present a valid Driver’s License or another form of a government issued current photo ID prior to any visit or student contact (no exceptions!). District employees may show their active LHISD employee badge as ID.
We also ask that all classroom visitors make arrangements/appointments with classroom teachers or administrators prior to a visit, as we do not allow unscheduled visits (as much as we like surprises!).
