8th Grade Expectations for Participation in Year-End Activities

8th grade is an exciting year for our students! It is a time of learning, celebration, and transition. In efforts to support our students in becoming the best citizens they can be we would like to make you aware of our expectations throughout the year. The Administrator team has talked with all of the 8th graders about these expectations and now we would like to share them with you.

There are many possible 8th grade celebrations (8th Grade Dance, field trips, team activities, and much more). As we get closer to these events we will monitor grades, student behavior and school attendance. We are asking for your help in supporting these expectations with our 8th grade students. Students who meet these expectations will be invited to participate in all of the exciting celebrations at the end of the year. Students who do NOT meet these expectations will be notified that they will be missing some or all of the end of year events. Each case will be reviewed by the teacher teams and the principal, who will make the final determination on participation. The purpose of high expectations is that all students continue to learn and perform at their best the entire year.

Expectations

  • Grades - Students will maintain a cumulative passing grade in each of his or her classes including ENCORE and PE, for the remainder of the school year. After term 5 (April 15th), we will be communicating with students and families whose student is not meeting this expectation.

  • Student Behavior - Students will not have been suspended after Term 2.

  • School Attendance - Students will have 5 or fewer truant absences. On the day of the activity (Dance, Honor’s Night, etc.), student attendance throughout the entire school day (7:40-2:14) is required.

We are confident that our students will be able to exceed these expectations and appreciate your support in ensuring his or her success. Our team of teachers and staff will be in contact with you as situations arise that may deter participation in these events. If you have any questions, please contact your building’s Administrative Team. Thank you again for your support!

HBMS PTO Happenings

October was a busy month for the HBMS PTO. We wrapped up the Spirit Wear sale and launched our Fall Fundraiser with Charleston Wrap. The PTO sponsored the HBMS Cross Country team’s end of season celebration with the Kona Ice Truck and provided pizzas for the entire girls conference volleyball teams for their celebration. The PTO was a presence at all the home games for the Girls Conference Volleyball teams with spirit wear and concessions sales. Thanks to the volunteers for coming out to support these efforts with the NJHS students. Look for us at the first Boys Conference Basketball Game on October 28th and all other home games. In attending conference volleyball games, I noticed we are the only school in our division that offers spirit wear and concession sales during games. We are definitely setting ourselves apart from the rest. Interested in volunteering during the games? Visit the SignUp Genius link for a list of our available shifts:

Fall Fundraiser – Charleston Wrap – DEADLINE EXTENDED

Here are some interesting stats:

The HBMS PTO has made a significant change in our meeting schedule. February: Cancelled

March 8, 2022 As Scheduled

April 12: Cancelled

May 10, 2022 As Scheduled

Dining for Dollars!
