Principal's Corner

Dear Families and Students,

I hope your second week at Orlando Science High School was a success! Students are getting used to the school procedures and classroom routines.

As we conclude our second week, I like to thank all parents and students for following instructions during our dismissal and pick up procedures. This helps to maintain smooth traffic lanes. Please be advised that Texas Ave. will only be used when exiting the technology campus, please do not use this road to enter to the campuses. This affects the traffic and operation in the campus. As we continue to assess and implement procedures on our Technology Drive campus, we appreciate your continued participation and patience.

Seniors, This is your year, 2020! I encourage you to be on top of your courses as well as your college applications. Please meet with Mr. I and check your progress and get the most up to date information and upcoming important deadlines. We will be hosting our senior dinners and breakfasts this year. Please stay tuned to our College Center corner.

Please join me to congratulate Tanvi, Deshna, Arnav, Nelson, and Joel for being recognized by Florida Department of Education for earning a perfect score on an EOC Assessment. These students strived for their excellence. Congratulations!

Parents, if you have not had a chance to sign up to our great Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO), You may still do so. Please see the registration details in this issue. We look forward to seeing your involvement in our school events. Our 2019-20 School Year Parent Teacher Conference (PTC) dates and Report Card/Progress Report Card Dates are set. Our curriculum night is set on Wednesday August 28th from 5:30p.m.-8:00p.m. Please be sure to mark your calendars. This is the best time to learn about your student's grade, specific curriculum, online resources, student progress monitoring system and about many learning resources we offer. I hope to see all of you there!

For those of you who missed the first newsletter, please be advised that each week the Orlando Science High School "Weekly Newsletter" will be sent home via email and may also be found on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Our weekly newsletters are great resources to stay informed about school activities, reminders and important information. If you have students at the Lynx Lane campus, there is a link to their weekly newsletter at the bottom of this page for your convenience. I hope everyone will have a great weekend!

New Orange County Text 911 Service

Big picture

Citizens and visitors in Orange County can now send a text message to 911 during an emergency or life-threatening situation. When seconds matter, a voice call to 911 is still the best and fastest way for a 911 call taker to retrieve and deliver life-saving information in the event of an emergency. However, there are certain circumstances where a text to 911 may be a better option. These include:

  •  You are hearing impaired
  •  You are speech impaired
  •  Making a voice call places you in a dangerous situation
  •  You have tried to call 911 but cannot get phone reception

If you choose to send a text message to 911, please remember the following:

  •  Always provide your exact location and the nature of your emergency
  •  Remember to silence your phone if you are in a dangerous situation
  •  Avoid using slang, social media jargon, and abbreviations
  •  Do not send photos, emojis, or videos
  •  Do not send a group text
