Message from the Principal

Dear Lakewood Families,

When we had to close buildings quickly in mid March we know that many of you left items in the building that you would like returned. Items will be available for pick up at each building on the dates and times listed below. When picking up items, please also plan to return items borrowed from school. Items to be returned include:

  • District issued Chromebooks (read more info below)
  • Library Books
  • Baggy Books/Book in a bag
  • Read Reading Folder (certain rooms)
  • Accelerated Books, Leveled Readers
  • March Packet (if you didn't make arrangements with teacher, Make sure student's first and last name is on it with the teacher's name).

All returned items should be in a bag labeled with the student’s name. To expedite this process and make the drive-thru process go as quickly as possible, please put your child’s first and last name (and homeroom teacher) on a sign in your front dash.

STUDENT PICK UP AND DROP OFF INFORMATION:

When:

Wednesday May 20th from 10am-12:00pm

Thursday, May 21 from 4pm-6pm

Where: At Hebron Elementary, Jackson Intermediate and Lakewood Middle School

Procedure: Please go down Hamilton like you would for parent pick-up and turn left on Deacon and follow the directions once you approach the school. Vehicles will be going around the back of the school for the curb side pick up. Make sure your child's first and last name and teacher's name is in your front dash.

Families will have the option to keep loaned Chromebook and WiFi devices for the summer or to return the devices to the school. There are many online learning platforms students are currently using and may continue to use over the summer to practice skills and enhance learning. This is an excellent opportunity to help students stay on track and prepare for the next grade level. Here is a list of suggested platforms and/or website resources that students have access to:

  • STMath
  • Zearn
  • Lexia (Until July 31)

We will share more resources in the future for the summer.

If you choose to keep school issued devices/hotspots over the summer, please understand that students and families are still subject to the rules set forth in the At-Home Device Handbook and you will be held financially responsible if devices are lost or damaged. Technology support is available at LancerTech@laca.org. You can access the complete handbook at Policy and handbook for families using Lakewood district-owned technology for distance learning.

Please note: we will not be collecting Chromebooks for students currently in grades 9-11 who are using the device they were issued. Students will keep them and bring them back in the fall. If you are moving, please contact LancerTech@laca.org to make arrangements to return.

If you are returning a school issued Chromebook during one of the student item drop off/pick up times, students should have all work completed before the Chromebook is returned OR you can contact your building principal to return the Chromebook at a later date.

Information about End of the Year Student Work:

All fourth quarter work is due on or before the end of the school day May 28th. Classroom zoom and reading conferences will end May 15, unless your teacher has told you otherwise. Teachers will continue to support students in comprehension of content and assignment completion through the end of the school year, May 28th. Students need to continue to complete the daily on-line expectations until the end of the school year. All students that have completed expectations for the school year will be entered in a drawing and winners will be announced in the parent newsletter and Facebook and the prizes will be mailed out. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your patience and support.

Mrs. Henry
