of Broken Arrow Week 10 Recap
For the Lord thy God is a merciful God; he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them. For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? Deuteronomy 4:31-32

Dialectic Stage (roughly 10-14) During the dialectic stage, we are training our children to think about ideas and the truth of those ideas through asking the right questions. In CC the model of asking the right questions begins in the Essentials of English Language Program. Each week tutors model how to ask the right questions to thoughtfully analyze sentence construction. The dialectic modeling continues from Essentials to the Challenge program. For example, in Challenge A the students:
- In exposition, they participate in discussions of literature and then write about it
- In research, they research, read, record, illustrate and relate back about natural science
- In Rhetoric, they read and discuss world origins from a Christian worldview.
- In Grammar, the students parse and diagram Latin as they work on how to learn a foreign language.
And that's just the beginning! Dialectic methods teach students how to think and equip them to self-educate. We never know what God may call them to do for them.

This week your families memorized the Latin pluperfect tense endings. If this is your first time through Cycle 2, you may be wondering what in the world pluperfect means and why we would want to know about it! As classical, Christian educators, we celebrate the importance of language. We learn much about our own language from digging into its roots in Latin. Like English, Latin has many verb tenses to denote when an action occurred. The pluperfect becomes especially important when students are translating original documents like Caesar's Gallic Wars because it denotes an action further back in time. Everything in Cesar's historical accounts will be in the past, but some of those actions are even further back. For example, you could say, "The general had gathered his troops before he destroyed the village." His action of destroying the village is in the past for us, but his action of gathering the troops is even further back. Have fun will this idea today by thinking of ways to tell stories in your home. It might go something like this, "Before I played baseball, I had tried soccer." Celebrate language in your home education journey.
