Stone Bank School
Reaching Out ~ April 18, 2019
From Mrs. Wohlfiel, Interim Principal
Happy Spring!
If I keep saying this to myself, I might believe it is actually spring because the weather outside does not reflect the season! The daffodils in front of school are blooming, so there is some hope the weather will soon change. In the last few days I have watched my son play baseball for Arrowhead in rain, sleet and almost snow - the fun of a spring baseball season! I look forward to a change that will allow me to watch his senior season without wearing my winter coat.
Speaking of coats, there are plenty of coats, jackets, snow pants, boots, gloves and hats in our lost and found. If your child is missing an item, or two, or three, please ask your child to look in our lost and found for the items to take home. If items are not “found” by the proper owner, a local charity organization will benefit from all of items lost and not found.
In the last newsletter I failed to recognize several of our students who participated and were qualified for various academic competitions. A well-deserved shout out for the following students:
Emma Danes, Rachel Wieland, Harper Richards, and Wade Lindmark - National History Bee
Harper Richards, Emma Danes, Rachel Wieland and Wade Lindmark competed and Wade Lindmark qualified for the National Competition US Regional Academic Bee
Erica Kohls, Alan Whitmoyer, and Emma Danes - National Science Bee
Our AMSAC volleyball program is going strong! On a regular basis we hear on the morning announcements the recaps of the games held the previous evening. Keep it up teams! If you want to cheer on our teams, you can find the schedule here. Thanks to all of our coaches who are providing a wonderful learning experience for our student-athletes.
Today our 7th grade students are returning from their Camp Whitcomb adventure. Last night Beth Wartzenluft and I went out to camp. It was great to see all of the families together catching up, laughing and sharing a potluck meal. These are the traditions that make Stone Bank such a wonderful place to be a student, family and staff member! Thanks to the students who partook in the activities, the families who attended the potluck and our staff who organized and supervised the adventure!
This week each of the final three candidates for the District Administrator/Building Principal spent a half-day at school interacting with staff and students. They even went out to Camp Whitcomb! It was nice being able to see how each could fit in at our school as well as offering an opportunity for the candidates to get an inside view of our school.
Upcoming calendar events of which to take note include:
NO SCHOOL this Friday, April 19 and this Monday, April 22. Enjoy your time with family! As a reminder, our students who attend Arrowhead High School DO have their AHS classes on Monday.
This Monday, April 22, at 5:15 p.m. is our April School Board Meeting in the library. Find out first-hand what is happening in our district.
Tuesday, April 30 open enrollment closes. We have one of the best, if not THE best schools, in the state. Please invite families and friends who may not be in the district to check us out and open enroll.
.
I hope you all have a great four-day weekend!

SBS Color Run 2019
Every year, the volunteers of Stone Bank’s PTO spend an incredible amount of time and effort raising funds for the school for items that wouldn’t be attainable within the budget the school district provides. With the money raised last year, we were able to purchase items such as risers for our fine arts program, supply our new book room, and smart boards for our classrooms.
Typically, we have a dinner and auction in the fall that raises the most money for the PTO all year long. It’s a huge undertaking for the parent volunteers. It takes hundreds of volunteer hours to make it happen, so it becomes almost a full-time job for the committee. While we desperately need the funds raised by the event, every year, it gets harder and harder to put it together because most volunteers also have full-time jobs.
So, how do we raise the most funds possible without all of the hours needed to pull off a big event? As a committee, we brainstormed and determined that it would be fun to get the students involved and raise money by doing a Color Run. If every student donates a minimum of $30 we could raise almost as much as we have raised at our previous fundraisers.
Please help us raise money for our Middle Schoolers at Stone Bank School so we provide our Middle Schoolers with a playground/recreation area.

SBS has Talent
Does your student participate in activities outside of Stone Bank School? Does he or she show skills or talent in that area?
We would LOVE to have pictures of our SBS students participating in their areas of talent. Our yearbook includes pictures of student clubs, school sponsored sports and competitions, but we’d like to highlight additional areas of talent that our students have.
We are building a bulletin board collage that shows students exhibiting/participating in their non-school activities.
Please send in a picture of your student (no larger than 5x7) so that we can place it on our Stone Bank has TALENT board in the commons. Pictures should be sent to the office in an envelope labeled Student Council/Sra. Hoffman. If you would like your picture back be sure to label your student’s name and homeroom teacher on the back of the photo.
Watch for the photo display on the bulletin boards in the commons. We hope to have them completed before the Spring Concert and Art Walk.
Thanks,
Student Council and Gifted and Talented

SBS 175th Birthday Celebration
This year commemorates Stone Bank School's 175th birthday! The attached questionnaire is being used to collect stories and memories from Stone Bank School throughout the years. We invite you to share your memories so that we can then share them with our students, to help them learn the history of Stone Bank School. With your permission, we will post your stories on a Google Site linked to our Stone Bank School website.
Anyone who has been a student, family member, friend, neighbor, or staff member is encouraged to share. Please forward this message to others you think would like to share. The more stories the better! More information will be coming soon about a whole school/community birthday celebration later in the school year. More information to come.
Please submit your response as soon as possible.

Opinion Writing at its Best
Mrs. Hordesky's second graders have been working hard on their opinion writing! We wanted to highlight this student's writing as it shows how great Stone Bank School is, in the eyes of a wonderful second grader! Enjoy!
My Favorite School
By Cash Bartosh
What is your favorite School? Stone Bank School is my favorite school. I think you should go to Stone Bank School.
My first reason is the playground. Our playground is fun. There is a jungle gym, slides, monkey bars and a spider web.
My second reason is math class. We have a smartboard, math journals and games.
My next reason is the Stone Bank Way. It is be responsible, be respectful and be ready. Then you follow the rules.
My last reason is snack. You get to eat our snack and while our teacher reads a book. Right now we are reading Charlotte’s Web.
The best school is Stone Bank School. You should go to Stone Bank School if you want to be smart.

I Love to Read Month
- Many of our students and staff members voted in this year's March Madness Book Tournament. In the end, it was a tight race between Wonder and the winner. The winning book this year is: Press Here by Herve Tullet! (Karrie, photo attached)
- And the moment we've all been waiting for... this year's I Love to Read Month video is LIVE on our library website! A huge thanks to Mr. Jaeger and his middle school high interest students for all their hard work. They did a great job. We even received an email from the author of the book featured in this year's movie, Ame Dyckman. She wrote, "This is the GREATEST THING I've ever seen and I'm sitting here in Universal Studios (it's our Spring Break) and just CRYING-LAUGHING and having a better time than anybody else here in the park! THANK YOU so much for sharing this, and please tell your Sweet Bear students that they TOTALLY ROCK!"
Tobacco is Changing
Attention middle school parents... Tobacco is Changing is a new campaign created by the WI Department of Health Services. Vaping/e-cigarettes is an issue with our youth and parents need to educate themselves. Please take two minutes to watch Tobacco is changing...the talk and visit this website for more information. Talk to your kids, they are listening.

Biztown was a Success
Biztown was a success! Student elected Mayor, Paige Taylor, led the day at JA Biztown with a motivational speech. Fourth and Sixth grade students spent the day running businesses such as Pieper Power, Chase Bank, Fox6, and WI Sports. Students took on roles such as sales representatives, managers, engineers, postal carriers, journalists, editors, CEOs, CFOs, and many more occupations.
Congratulations to our Fox6 company, who was recognized for their outstanding collaboration, work ethic and performance!
A special thank you for the following volunteers who helped make Biztown a magical experience for our Stone Bank Students: Sara Kureck, Jen Justice, Kasie Knuth, Tana Swedberg, Derek Paupore, Kristen Olver, Genevieve Danes, Kim Thiel, Tammy Pulvermacher, Amy Galaway, Dave Newman, Heidi Kemos, Debbie Bebeau, Maria Draeger, Julie Taylor, Erik Martin, Jennifer Gilroy, & Jennifer Anderson Warwick.
Audtion Opportunity
Hi, school friends of Lake Country Children's Theater!
If you would be so kind as to announce our audition for "Alice in Wonderland" in your next newsletter, we would be greatly appreciative. The announcement is attached. This is our 20th consecutive year offering this program! We have every school in the Lake Country area represented in our summer shows and we want to be sure your students know of this opportunity. Alternatively, you could simply provide this link to our webpage which has this information and more: http://www.lakecountrychildrenstheater.org/auditions.htm.
If this email has reached the wrong individual, would you please let us know so we may update our list?
Thanks from Dugan the Dragon and Friends! We appreciate your support very much.
