CHS9 Staff Bulletin 10-25-19
"Everyone. Everyday. Whatever it takes."
Gorka's Gab
We hope you all enjoyed the Pappa's BBQ breakfast tacos! The potato, egg, and cheese are my new favorites! They were just a small token of thanks for all you do!
Early voting is well under way! If our campus can get "100" people to vote and collect "100" voting stickers we will get a "jeans pass" till January! Our "voting poster" is hanging up across the hall from our clinic. Voting locations can be found below. Please spread the word, "Go vote"!
Next week is "Red Ribbon Week". Please join in on the dress up fun! The flyer is attached below.
Also, we pushed back our "fall" instructional rounds from November 4th to 15th. This is our third year conducting rounds. Mrs. Morrow created the schedule and I emailed that to you this morning. I have included our rounds calendar link below so that you would have easy access in finding it in our bulletin. As a reminder, "instructional rounds" are an excellence PD opportunity to support your own practices and gain ideas from fellow teammates.
I hope you all stay warm and have a restful weekend!

Please find our list of the CHS9 Campus Committees that we will use this year to CONNECT with students and staff: Thanks in advance for your "ALL STILL MEANS ALL HANDS ON DECK" initiative. Committees will host their second meeting this Wednesday, October 30th.
Counselor's Corner
Last Friday, the Counselors shared the following video to the students as a challenge to identify their "Why." We each have our own "Why," and it brings us together everyday, to educate and empower these youth. Please be prepared to share your "Why" with your students, as they may inquire about it.
SPED/504/ESL/RtI
Only 4 more weeks until Thanksgiving Break, hang in there y'all, we can make it!
ESL: Mrs. Carlysle and Mrs. Pineda talked to our campus this week about strategies for helping English Language Learners be successful in our courses. The first part of this presentation tells us how to see the fluency levels of each student in ViewIt. These levels correlate with the booklet and other information we were given. Level 1 = beginner Level 2 = intermediate Level 3 = advanced Level 4 = advanced high. These levels are based on the students’ TELPAS score. If the student has not taken a TELPAS test we should approach them as beginners until we learn more about their skills. The second part of this slide show is a copy of the TEA ELPS Academy book with some of those strategies and some of the suggestions made by the presenters. *Special thanks to Mrs. Newman for help with this slide show. See attachment below.
RtI: We will have the first Decision Point meeting October 30, 2019. If you have concerns, information, or questions please notify any RtI committee member. Student Support RtI Team; Sandra Matson- Coordinator/Reading ELL, Julia Venghaus-Administrator, Linda McAdams-Counselor, Angela Morrow- Reading Comprehension, Lee Marshall-English, Nicole Mershimer-Math/Math ELL, Emily Black- ELL, Sheri Nuon-Special Education, Chelsie Newman-Biology/ELL, and Jonni Hayhurst-Diagnostician.
504/ Testing: Thank you so much for completing your 504 feedback. This is the first week we've had 100% of teachers respond for every meeting that was held this week. I APPRECIATE it, please keep it up (I know you are all working hard)!!!
