Best Wishes for the Holiday Season

Dear Parents and Students,

I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year. Reflecting on this past semester, I realize that I am very fortunate to be able to do the work I do with students and their families. My students are amazing and because of them my days are filled with joy! We live in turbulent times for sure, but, in my little world at Cañada College, I am so thankful for each of you and the richness you add to my life. I look forward to another great semester beginning in January.

Upcoming Holidays

The fall semester ends on Thursday, December 17th. Friday, December 18th is a teacher work day and there will be no school. Students who are taking Cañada classes should make sure they are aware of the date, time and place for their finals. Finals week at Cañada begins on December 12th.

Winter Break for Sequoia Union High School District is from 12/18/15 through 1/4/16. The first student day is Tuesday, January 5, 2016.

Winter break for Cañada is from 12/18/15 through 1/19/16. Classes begin on January 20, 2016.

January 18th is a holiday for the SUHSD (Martin Luther King Day)

Spring Semester Student Meeting Schedule Changes

I will be making adjustments to the weekly student meeting schedule during the first and second week of the new semester. Adjustments will be made based on the needs of students and their Cañada course schedules.

Independent Study Graduation

Save the date! The Independent Study graduation will be Tuesday, May 24th at 7:00 PM in the Board Room at the district office. The address is 480 James Ave., Redwood City. We will rent caps/gowns in January (at no cost to students). More information will become available as the date gets closer. Both ISP classes join together for our graduation celebration. It is a lot of fun. Students who intend to walk in their home school graduation as well need to read their school emails, check in with their school (or friends) and make sure the school knows they intend to participate.

Financial Aid Information for College Bound Seniors

All seniors (and their parents) should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

(FAFSA). You can begin this process on January 1st. It is best to complete this early. The deadline for completion is March 2nd, 2016. Check out the link below for the application and instructional videos. Cañada College also provides workshops to help students and families complete the FAFSA. The link below provides more information about this option.
