Faculty Meeting Wednesday, May 11th

We will have a faculty meeting on Wednesday. Please be prepared to provide an update on your HB5 and CNA progress.

Frank Barrera - Station 7: 300 wing between 303 and 306 (monitor from 303 to 301)

Afternoon Duty This Week - 3:37 to 4:00

May 9-13: Teachers in 100 and 300 wings inside; Teachers in 200 and 400 wings outside.

May 16-20: Teachers in 100 and 300 wings - outside; Teachers in 200 and 400 wings inside.

May 23-27: Teachers in 100 and 300 wings inside; Teachers in 200 and 400 wings outside.

May 30-June 2: Teachers in 100 and 300 wings - outside; Teachers in 200 and 400 wings inside.

Please fan out so that you can keep a watchful eye on your surroundings. As we discussed last week, when you are visible in the hallways and outside, students will not typically engage in inappropriate behavior. With careful scanning and watching of body language, we can prevent most of these events from happening.

Your presence makes a difference and is noted. Please continue to be our eyes and ears as we work to ensure student safety.

When in doubt, put your red cup out!

As you know, we are STAAR testing this week. Let's work to ensure no irregularities occur. If you have any questions, need assistance, or have doubts about something, put your red cup outside your door far enough to be seen and someone will come to provide assistance.

Teacher Mailboxes

Teacher mailboxes should be treated just as U.S. Postal Service Mailboxes are treated. In other words, no one should be removing anything another teacher's mailbox. It was reported to me that this happened during Teacher Appreciation Week, and some teachers did not receive their goodies. As the students would say, "That's messed up, Miss."

Would you want your items removed from your mailbox? Please respect the individual to whom that mailbox is assigned.

Attendance Update:

Last week was one of our worst weeks for attendance. The stomach flu is making the rounds and throat infections are rampant. Many of you have suffered through these illnesses, too. We have got to reach and maintain 95% for the remainder of the year. What incentives can you offer your students?

As always, make those phone calls home, document them, and give your call logs to Sandra Smithwick. If you do not have an accurate number, please check with Roxie Solis as she may have an updated number. Phones are available in the principal's office, the office behind Bonnie Cuevas' desk, the conference/lunch room where the drink machine is located, and the security office.

Dress Code

Students are not following dress code. Please have a dress code check first period and send to the back office those students who are out of compliance. Students are either not wearing a dress code shirt under their hoody or they are not wearing any shirt under their hoody. Footwear has been inappropriate as well.

Food and Drink in Classrooms

There should be absolutely no food or drinks in classrooms unless approved by an administrator. On our walk-abouts we have noticed that classroom trashcans are holding quite a good number of discarded chips bags, drink bottles, and cans. Students are not to bring any outside food into the classrooms.
