Welcome!
From the District Administrator's Office
December is a time many of the talents of our students will be featured. December is concert month. All of our students will be featuring their musical talents at our Christmas concerts. Every grade level along with the band and choir will be performing at various concerts. Check our website for the dates and times of the individual concerts.
Speaking of our website, check out our new and improved website. We have redesigned it to make it more user friendly and easier to find important information. Many of the pictures are courtesy of our photography class students. This is another wonderful example of the talents of our kids.
Our students are developing our entrepreneurial skills with the official opening of the Falcon Nest school store. Come and visit us on Tuesday, December 8 during the basketball games to not only select some Flambeau wear, but see Christmas present ideas produced by our Technology Education department.

While paging through a special edition of one of my professional magazines, which revolved around the arts in education, I stumbled across an article that caught my interest. It was titled “Teaching by Design.” Design Thinking is a problem-solving strategy that helps build students’ 21st Century skills and prepares students to be collaborative, inventive, and entrepreneurial. The process of design thinking is cyclical and iterative, which requires ideation, visualization, experimentation, discovery, and assesses students in real-life problems. It is about students being experimental, curious empathetic and collaborative and it gets teachers thinking about how to shift students to learn, create, evaluate and deeply understand in context to become decision-makers needed for the future.
After reading the article and walking the halls of our elementary, I saw examples of design thinking everywhere and was quite excited! Just one example of this type of thinking was taken from Mrs. vanDoorn’s fifth grade science classes when they performed a Carbon Dioxide Experiment (pictures shown below). Children at Flambeau are design thinkers who are capable of making important decisions—it’s great to see each and every day!

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” - Thomas Morton
The Flambeau High School art department received the great honor of restoring the Sheldon area painted mural, which was originally completed by the Flambeau School art department! Nancy Kraft presented Mrs. Linse (Flambeau’s current High School art teacher) with the mural and a wonderful donation to cover all the needed art supplies to bring this beautiful painting back to its original state. The Flambeau School is proud and excited to witness the restoration of the mural and seeing it placed back in the Sheldon community. A BIG thank you goes out to Nancy and Mrs. Linse and her art students.

The artwork shown is work from the photography class students. They are given different photo shooting assignments, for example sunrises and sunsets, patterns found in nature, doors and windows. Their next assignment is to take photos of reflections. Students then took their first 2 photo assignments and created a landscape collage using Photoshop from the first 2 photo assignments.
If you would like to donate to the purchase of our new camera fund, our students would truly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mrs. Marion Linse
