GEMS Club Beginning
Attention Parents of 4th and 5th Grade Girls: Applications are now available for the Girls Engaged in Math and Science (GEMS) Club at Greystone Elementary. GEMS is a small club of 8 girls in fourth and fifth grades. This group of girls is selected through the application process shared in November of each year. The girls meet weekly in the sponsor's classroom beginning in November. GEMS is a state-wide educational program designed to actively involve girls in STEM-related activities through formal and informal learning environments. Through this club, the girls will work with the sponsor to determine a common STEM interest, research this topic through math and science investigations, and create a project centered around this topic. Please see the links below for the detailed information letter and student application if you are interested in your child applying for this group. The applications are due to Maria Beard by Friday, November 9th at 8 am.

Attention Responsible 4th Graders
Do you like volunteering for community service? Do you want to help keep the students at our school safe? Consider joining safety patrol!
We are searching for students who are interested in serving on our Safety Patrol Team for the spring semester. The first schedule will run from January 7-March 14, 2019. You should only apply for this position if you want to help keep Greystone safe and can commit to keeping up with this responsibility.
Morning patrols must be at their post by 7:15 a.m. Afternoon patrols should plan to be on duty until 3:05 p.m. Parents need to be sure their child will be at school by their designated time. We do not want patrols arriving late for their post or leaving early.
Being a part of safety patrol is a position of honor and leadership. We appreciate the work the patrols do and the time they give to the school. Safety patrol members must realize this is a commitment and they will be expected to be on post at their scheduled time.
Students who serve on the safety patrol team during the 3rd and 4th nine weeks will earn a special party before we get out for summer break.
If you would like to apply to be a part of safety patrol for the remainder of the year, please submit an application through the following website:

PTA SPOTLIGHT: LAURIE RUSSELL
My name is Laurie Russell and this is our 3rd year at Greystone Elementary School (GSES). My husband, Kent, and I have two children, Riley Ann (8) and Cole (11). Riley is in 3rd grade at GSES and Cole is in 6th grade at Berry Middle. We moved to Greystone two years ago and were a little anxious to start at a new school. However, our apprehensions were quickly alleviated. We have been so pleased with GSES’s structure, staff, technology, and family involvement which is why I became interested in participating in the PTA.
This is my first year to serve on the PTA Board. As Corresponding Secretary, I am responsible for the PTA bulletin board, writing notes & letters (appreciation, sponsorship, congratulations, sympathy), attending PTA board meetings, and handling the PTA Teacher of the Year award. The PTA bulletin board is located just outside the cafeteria entrance where you can find material on how to become more involved in our school. Please stop by!
In our short time at GSES, I have witnessed the impact PTA has had on our school. It has been a true honor to be part of PTA and work with so many talented parents and teachers.
If you are looking for a way to become more involved but are not sure how to start, please reach out. We would love to have you!
