"Night" Menu-Entrees
Shelby Henley
How did camp life change the prisoners as a person? A family? And relationships with other human beings?
Living in the camps came with many difficulties and changed people's lives forever. The way they changed depended on who they were and their situation. If the situation was very harsh, it could change the person drastically and almost turn them into an animal and treating their peers like one too. Even if the situation was not as harsh it still could change the person, especially if they are easily hurt. Families were also separated during these hard times and no I do not mean going to different places I mean mentally separated. Sometimes a family member would turn on another and would purposely break them apart, maybe even forever.
Identify at least three themes in the novel.
Although there are many themes in the novel "Night" I am only going to state three. One lesson I learned in this story is to never give up. The characters in the story are going through an extremely hard time, but they decide to keep going no matter what may stand in their way. Another lesson is to be caring towards others, even if it means to sacrifice something of your own. In "Night", there was one scene when the main character was beat very badly and one girl helped him with the little she had even though she was risking her life. One other lesson that I was taught by this novel is to be grateful for all that I have. When the author describes the situation of camp, it makes me realize how lucky I am to have all that I do.
What does this novel reveal about me as a human being?
This novel has definitely changed my perspective of life and has taught me many important lessons. Reading this story has made me think I need to be more grateful for what I have and be more caring for myself and others. I try to be thankful for my family and friends, but reading the novel has taught me how important it is to be this way. Being caring is hard especially if the person is not caring back, but I try my best.
