STAAR Testing
Dear Parents,
Texas students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades will participate in the state-required State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) in April and May. STAAR is a state assessment program designed to measure the full range of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in mathematics, reading, writing, and science. STAAR tests include writing in grade 4, reading and mathematics in grades 3, 4, and 5, and science at grade 5. We hope that students will regard the tests as important, but that they will not approach the tests with undue anxiety.
In accordance with state guidelines, your son or daughter will test on the following dates.
Grade Level Date and subject
3rd Grade
May 13th - Math
May 14th - Reading
4th Grade
May 13th - Math
May 14th - Reading
5th Grade
May 15th - Science
Results of tests are expected to arrive mid-June. The scores will provide teachers and other educators with information needed to help students improve achievement in math, reading, writing, and science.
Parents, on STAAR testing days there will be no volunteers or visitors allowed in the building unless there is an emergency. Parents and guests will be unable to visit for lunch on any of these days. If you drop your child’s lunch off for them on these days, please know that lunch times have been altered. Please check with your child’s teacher in advance to find out their lunchtime on testing days.
As always, we wish to keep parents involved and informed about student programs. Please contact me at jamey.allen@pisd.edu if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Jamey J. Allen
Principal
