Opening Week of MRHS's new Jawsome Power Hour HUGE Success!
We'd like to share some success stories as they come in regarding how wonderfully our Jawsome time is being used by students and staff:
- So wonderful to have TIME set aside for extra help! Turned 3 zeroes into grades by helping kids finish missing assignments today!
- I have had 2 students who wanted to bring their grade up in classes - both using the time to get help in foundations of tech at THEIR REQUEST. It's really an awesome thing and to watch a small group of my kids laughing together in our room eating lunch was amazing.
Today was our first day of the International Pen Pal workshop during JawsomeHour. We had 5 excited students show up to participate. We are hoping for more next week. For those who are interested, we meet on day 6 during the first half ofJawsome in A209.
- Today I had an AP Statistics Boot Camp. I had 6 students attend. In addition to this, I had 3 students finishing tests with Mr. Ambrose and Ms. Corrigan during Jawsome. The AP Statistics students are people I have never seen after school because they are so busy. My freshmen report they are using Jawsome to work and go to enrichment activities. I am totally loving how our students are embracing Jawsome!
- In the first 5 days - 100% of students showed up for detention- that NEVER happened when we held it after school!
- 13 kids showed up to watch a "Meaningful Movie" on the first day
4 - 5 of my students finished an exam the last two days
11 kids came to learn Italian yesterday
7 students came to my AOT today and completed work!
This is a very exciting time for us as a school.
Go Sharks!
Enjoy some pictures (above & below) of kids socializing with friends and teachers and taking advantage of the many learning opportunities we've created together.

Ebony Hicks Models why MRHS is a true "Home Away From Home" - Amazing Story!
I received a new student to my English class last week. Any student would have an extremely difficult time joining a new class and making friends.
One of my students in my English class, Ebony Hicks, overheard me talking to the new student about note books, paper, folders, etc. and how I was going to go and pick them up for her. Ebony went out this weekend and bought her all new school supplies and placed a note on top asking if she wanted to be friends and welcoming her to this school and to please have an amazing day.
I think my heart has melted. This is the best act of kindness I have every seen from any student I have ever taught. This school is truly special.
Ms. Corrigan
Shark "Shout Outs" MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People That Make Our School "A Home Away From Home"
I would like to send an ENORMOUS Shark Shout Out to Officer Tom Clark and the other Harwich police officers, as well as firefighters, who gave our Boys Basketball team a police and fire escort from Exit 10 after the game in Brockton. It was very windy, very cold, and very snowy at 10:00 last night when we all got back, but our men and women in blue gave our boys, our cheerleaders, and about 50 fans who braved the freezing temps a very special memory that none of us will ever forget (and I've been teaching for 25 years and alive for 56).
Another great shout out to those 50+ fans who waited over 10 minutes in absolutely freezing temperatures and blustery winds in front of our school building to give our team the support they earned. Big thanks to Kerri Robinson, Kwon Faith, and Tim Doyle who stood out in the cold with the kids.
I recently received a shout out for organizing the fan buses, but, really, it was a great pleasure. Our Monomoy kids are so wonderful and supportive, and I have so many special memories from this year's boys' and girls' basketball season. This past week may have been one of the most enjoyable weeks in my long teaching career; between the tournament games and the implementation of the Jawsome hour (which I love, love, love), I have had a smile on my face all week. Thank you Monomoy Sharks!
Ms. Forte-Doyle
Words cannot express how wonderful the soup was today! I was feeling icky and needed a good, warm, pick-me-up; Claire offered to get me something from the Cafe and she chose the soup... it was TERRIFIC! Thank you cafeteria crew!

Shark Shout Out to Samantha McDonald for her suggestion of a clever title for one of our new tech courses next year! Thanks Samantha!! Stay tuned for "Computer Cruisers!"

I was duly impressed by the entire cast and crew of "Catch Me If You Can" performed at the HS last night. Knowing that the lead, MRHS senior Jack Watson, was recuperating from being ill up to curtain call, I couldn't help but offer a Shark Shout Out to him for his perseverance, enthusiasm, passion, and determination; living up to the adage: "The Show Must Go On!"
Though suffering vocally, Jack transformed into the lead character believably and eagerly! His unstoppable swag carried him victoriously through every scene, every song, every fluid movement... allowing the audience to experience a Broadway-like show! Kudos to Jack and his amazing resolved for I'm sure it was by pure willpower that he made it through!

I just wanted to give a huge Shark Shout Out to the cast and crew of Catch Me If You Can! I am so impressed with the talent and commitment of everyone involved. Knowing full well how much blood sweat and tears go into mounting such a complex production, I was amazed at how well the students responded to the challenge of the knock-out flu tearing through the school. From the directors to the designers to the cast and crew, what a shining example of everything that makes Monomoy great!
Please go see the show this weekend and support and cheer them on; you will not be disappointed!

I would like to send a shout out to the team that represented MRHS at this year's Destination Imagination tournament. They were faced with a last minute challenge when one member developed a stomach virus in the morning, while at the competition! They worked quickly and rewrote their story to accommodate the change, a demonstration of fantastic teamwork by the team. On top of that, they won a special judge's award for design of their props. Congratulations to Caroline Davock, Caraline LaBelle, Samantha Mahoney, Hannah Mitchell, and Lindsay Smith!
