Meet Our Crew

Yvonne Holland, 4th Grade Teacher

Hello Everyone!

My name is Yvonne Holland, the kids call me Ms. Holland. I am a 4th grade teacher here at Hooker Oak and I am so happy to be here! We have a great staff, super families, and wonderful students. I love the community feeling at Hooker Oak. I taught in Paradise until the CampFire and I am glad to find a new home here.

I am originally from the Bay Area, but have lived in Chico for about 15 years. I've been a teacher for over 20 years, teaching 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Libreral Studies from San Francisco State University, and my Masters in Education; Curriculum Development and Instructional Design, from California State University at Chico.

When I am not teaching, you will find me playing in the garden or reading in my hammock. Working with native plants and designing a healthy environment to create a backyard habitat for animals is one of my main goals! I love spending time in my garden.

Thank you to everyone who has been so welcoming and helpful! It makes all the difference in the world!

Field Trip T-Shirts-Sponsors Needed!

Every year our PTO provides each student with a "field trip t-shirt" to wear when they are out in the community. Although our field trips may be delayed this year we still plan to go on as many as we can in order for our students to apply their learning outside the classroom.

In order to make this happen, we need sponsors! We have three ways to sponsor our student t-shirts:

-$500 donation includes business name and logo

-$250 donation includes business name

-$100 donation includes family name

Hooker Oak students will be wearing these t-shirts in the community and during spirit wear days where your business logo will proudly be displayed!

*Checks can be made payable to Hooker Oak PTO or paid electronically via PayPal to hookeroakpto@gmail.com*

Logos can be submitted to hookeroakpto@gmail.com.

Deadline for donations is Oct 1st, 2021

Girls on the Run

We have a few more spots on our Fall Girls on the Run team. This is an international program which promotes healthy choices and positive self-esteem for girls in 3rd-5th grades. We meet twice a week after school (Tuesday/Thursday). The season culminates with the girls run/walking in a 5K just for them. (The Fall 2021 5K will take place at Bidwell Park on Saturday, Nov. 13)

There is a fee for your girl to participate in this program. Please let Teacher Nicole in Room 12 or Teacher Jennifer in Room 14 know if you are interested!

Reading Pals is on our campus this year!

We are looking for volunteers to spend 1-hr a week reading with students on campus who just need a little extra dose of help to catch up this year. We have a reading center on campus and a very easy curriculum to use with the students- if you can read, you can help a student boost their confidence in reading! Join us today or perhaps you know of a grandparent, aunt, uncle, or friend that might enjoy volunteering 1 hr a week on campus. The program runs M-TH 8-10 am. Help us spread the word! This would be a perfect way to meet your Hooker Oak volunteer commitment!

To sign up visit: readingpalschico.org or email: lphizackerly@chicousd.org

Symptom Guide

Please review the Student Symptom Guide and be vigilant about completing a Daily Wellness Check for your child. DO NOT send your child to school if he/she exhibits ANY of the symptoms. If our staff becomes aware of any of these symptoms, we will call and ask that your child be picked up immediately.

Thank you for helping us keep our school open and our school community safe!

Parent Volunteer Vaccination Requirement

As you know, Hooker Oak thrives because of our amazing parent volunteers. We want to make sure that everyone has time to prepare for the new requirement that will go into effect on October 15th. All parent volunteers will be required to show proof of vaccination from COVID-19. If you have any questions about this requirement, please feel free to reach out to the school office.

We Need Sprouty Store Donations and a Parent Helper!

We are so excited to bring the Sprouty Store to our students this year! We have created a Wish List on Amazon of items that students can purchase in the Sprouty Store with their Sprouty Dollars. Our plan is to have the store open during lunch on the last Friday of the month, starting on September 24th. We would greatly appreciate donations to our Sprouty Store! You can click here to view the Wish List, or scan the QR code below. Items will be shipped directly to the school.

We also need a parent volunteer to run the Sprouty Store. It would be a 2 hour a month commitment and a fantastic way to fulfill your volunteer commitment to our school! Not to mention, you will be making kiddos extremely happy! If you are interested, please contact Principal Emily at emullins@chicousd.org.

Mental Health & Wellness Resources

With growing concerns regarding COVID-19, we know this is a time of great uncertainty for all of us and our communities. Chico Unified families can take full advantage of the tele-health and virtual therapy resources made available through our partner Care Solace.
