Revisions to W-4: Employee’s Withholding Certificate
Dear CISD Employee,
For 2020, the Internal Revenue Service has revised IRS Form W-4: Employee’s Withholding Certificate. In addition to general formatting changes, the IRS will no longer be using number of withholding allowances to calculate the amount of federal tax withholding. After December 2019, any withholding changes will occur using the revised form to provide the employer with an increase or decrease amount for wages subject to income tax withholding.
The IRS has designed tables to allow withholding calculations to continue for earlier versions of the form. Therefore, you are not required to submit a new Form W-4. However, it may be in your best interest to review the 2020 version as well as the IRS’s Tax Withholding Estimator (www.irs.gov/W4App) to determine if you would benefit from completing a new form.
Please see IRS.gov/W4 for additional information on Form W-4 such as:
The Payroll Department cannot give tax or legal advice. However, if you have any other questions relating to this notice, please contact the Payroll Department at (936) 709-7722 or at payroll@conroeisd.net.
