Patton Parent Update
January 23-27
Principal's Message
Patton Parents,
We have conferences coming up on Friday, January 27, from 8:00-3:30. Please sign-up for conference times with homeroom teachers (6th grade) and Period 9 (Advisory) teachers (7th-9th grade) using Skyward Family Access. Please bring your student(s) with you since these are Student-Led Conferences. If you would like to meet with your student's other teachers, please email them directly. You can do this by clicking on your student's grade book in Skyward, then clicking on the teacher's name. This will open a window for you to send an email to that teacher. If you are unable to schedule a conference on Friday and would like to meet with your student's teacher(s), please email them to set up an alternate time.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday!
With Patton Pride,
Tyler Fowler

8th grade News
8th grade ELA:
This week in ELA we started covering the life of Harriet Tubman and her impact during the American Civil War. We read articles, compared and contrasted, debated, and tested our knowledge. In Block 2 we continued our work with argumentative essay writing. We completed a worksheet that introduced us to terms and concepts included in argumentative essay writing and challenged students to write a first attempt at a full argumentative essay.
8th grade Social Studies:
This week in Social Studies students were introduced to the American Gold Rush and Manifest Destiny. Students were exposed to different territories such as Oregon, California, and Texas. We read about the different conflicts that went along with the country expanding and the different leaders that arose from these conflicts.
8th grade Math:
Students worked to master solving multiple-step algebraic equations with rational numbers, distributive property, and negative numbers!!! The most common mistake is losing the negative or mismanaging negative numbers. Next week we will be wrapping up equations with a short quiz and will begin solving inequalities. Coach Bottom will be my substitute while I’m out, beginning January 31st.

Track Season is right around the corner. We will have interest sheets for 7th and 8th graders in the lunchroom.
