The Georgia Milestones Assessment will take place in April and May for all students in grades 3-5. Parent flyers came home in Friday Folders today. The testing dates for each grade level are listed below. If you have questions regarding testing, please contact your child’s teacher or our Assistant Principal over Milestones testing, Kelly Nix.
Next week is Spring Break! There will be no school April 4-8. We hope everyone enjoys their time off to relax and recharge! We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, April 11.
Have a great Spring Break!

Students in grades 3-5 will take the Georgia Milestones Assessment beginning in April. This state assessment measures how well students have learned knowledge and skills in the core areas of language arts, mathematics, and science (grade 5 only). Schools are required to follow the district-established testing schedule. Digital learners must report to school to take the Milestones assessment on the days their grade level is testing. Please refer to the calendar below for testing dates.
The practice site below lets students see what testing online is like. Parents and educators are welcome to try it too. The items on the demonstration tests are general and are organized into three grade bands: Grades 3 – 5, Grades 6 – 8, and High School in the content areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The items do not necessarily represent the specific grade-level content that students learn daily in their classrooms. The primary purpose is to let students experience, firsthand, the functionality of the online testing platform. The sample tests are not graded, so have fun!

Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month
Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of April is Fairness. Fairness means treating everyone with the same amount of respect and kindness. As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited fairness the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month.
Spotlight on SEL Picture Books
Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson
When Ms. Albert teaches a lesson on kindness, Chloe realizes that she and her friends have been wrong in making fun of new student Maya's shabby clothes and refusing to play with her. This beautifully illustrated story addresses the themes of friendship and acceptance.
Reading Rewards
April reading rewards logs are in today’s Friday folders! I hope you will find some time to read and log minutes over the spring break. April will be the last month of the reading rewards program for this school year.
Monthly logs should reflect 20 different dates in the month, with at least 20 total minutes of reading for each date. Incomplete logs will not be accepted. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.
If you lose your log or find you need a replacement, monthly logs can be downloaded and printed from the media center link of the school website. Look for the Reading Rewards link on the left side of the media center website.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, refer to the reading rewards link on the media center page of the school website or contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
